I heard from a Navy guy at my school that speciality applications were due in the spring of our 3rd year and placement would be finished by May of the 3rd year? Is this true? Do we need to apply that early and does placement occur before our 4th year of dental school???

Where do we get the applications and find out all the important information? What is the website???

The Army has a different schedule. Our application due date is Nov 9 for 4th year students this year. AEGD application was due Oct 1.

Yeah, the guy at your school is right. The Navy specialty applications will open up Jan-Feb time and will be due a few months after that. You have to have a few recommendations, statement of interest, all transcripts etc. to be able to turn in a complete packet. This is for the Navy though and does not mean it is for every branch. You should contact your HPSP headquarters and ask them about the details for the Army. For the Navy, you apply in the spring of your 3rd year for specialties and in the fall of your 4th year for the 1 year AEGD or PGY-1.

Well shoot, I missed that memo...I thought all applications for AEGD's and specialties were due on November 9th. So.....if you inadvertently missed the deadline for a mandatory application, then what?

The deadline for AEGD 1yr is not Oct 1st, but it is some time in November. Your local recruiter is responsible for receiving all items for the package and check for its completeness and submit to the board in November. We were told to submit by Oct 1 so that the recruiter could have enough time to work. So my suggestion is to get in touch with your recruiter asap. Applying for AEGD 1yr is mandatory for participating in the HPSP. I was told my the command that the board would review the packages some time in December.
