sorry...forgot to add this in my last posting....if i want to specialize in orthodontics (i know, i know...ultra competitive!) which schools are the best?
First of all obtaining an Orthodontic residency isn't as hard as you think. I have read posts in this forum saying you need to graduate in the top 3 in your class. There are about 55 dental schools in the US and about 275 orthodontic residency spots, you do the math.
If you are serious about doing an orthodontic residency I would recomend Columbia first and UPenn second. Why, because in order to get into an orthodontic residency you need to have an excellent biomedical education and do well on the National Boards part 1. Also both of these schools have great reputations and both encourage and help students specialize. I would say that if you go to either one of those schools you would have an excellent chance of becoming an orhtodontist. If you arent all that serious about orthodontics but still want to keep your options open UConn will give you an excellent biomedical education as well as clinical and you will save a ton of money. Feel free to ask any more questions. 😀
thanks for your advice ford67. unfortunately, i haven't heard back from upenn and columbia yet, so those two schools aren't options for me. i got accepted to nyu and univ. of pittsburgh so far. any input on these two schools?
I am sorry, I didn't read your previous post. If I were you I would have a long talk with the deans of NYU and Pitt. Ask him the same questions you are basically asking on this forum and try to talk with students from these schools. 😀
