hello was looking for some help with college stuff and stumbled on this forum yay.
so this is the plan with my life right now,

Community college (im going to this next year)
UCSD
Harvard school of dental medicine.

The specialty that i am leaning to is oral and maxillofacial surgery
I had a few question such as....

1. What major(s) should i be doing for UCSD in order to get into Harvard?
2. When i choose a specialty such as oral surgeon how many extra years do i need after the initial 4 years in Harvard? or do i complete my specialty in the 4 years?
3. I'm transferring from CC to UCSD after 2 years, Ive been hearing stuff about guaranteed transfer if i keep a specific gpa, is this true or are there other requirements? although on the UCSD website said that the average transfer gpa is 3.4
4. additional questions may be added.............. dammit why cant i think of them right now =(

Also can i get some life storys about people who went to HSDM or a smiliar school like uconn/upenn about like which major you did, what classes you took in pregraduate school.

thanks for looking.

assuming you are not a troll, i wouldnt bank on harvard..focus on college and then the dat..

not really banking on harvard its just like my preferred choice......
cause my grandfather went to harvard so.... iono its kinda cool to be going to the same school.

community college... lol

i don't even know what those are.

start reading the forums

Sounds to me like you just want to go to HSDM. I don't get the feeling you really want to be a dentist.

If going to HSDM turns you on that much, then good luck. But you're going to have to like start busting your ass off like oh my god right now, like.

To achieve your goals UCSD->Harvard -> OMS, you will need to work very hard. You could start by reading forums here for a few weeks. You should find out what other did to get where you would like to be in 8-10 years. The most important question you should ask yourself now and every time you’ll run into difficult situation - how much do you want to be a dentist?

Go make sure if HSDM accepts community college credits for prerequisite courses, and if so, what is the maximum number they accept from CC.

And Harvard doesn't accept ppl with only stellar grades. They want people with unique experiences/background. You may be a social ****** like Jimmy Choo but still get in by acting like an aristocrat.

a++++++

OMFS residency is 4-6 years after dental school and you pretty much have to be in the top of your class and do exceptional on your national boards part 1. For now, just worry about getting and maintaining a high GPA and do some service/volunteer work and research!

seaweed719: lol, I've seen Jimmy Choo on the forum, but why is he/she a social ******?

And to the original poster... Just work your butt off. UCSD->Harvard is going to be tough.

They only check your hs transcript if you are invited to interview, which isn't a walk in the park to begin with. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that it's highly uncommon for them to take students with 2 years at a cc too. If you don't more or less 4.0 your first 2 years of cc, you're probably out of luck. Not to mention that if you can't 4.0 at cc, you probably won't get the grades at UCSD to be competitive for them anyway.

Let's just say sometimes arrogance and ignorance are two sides of the same thing.

To the OP: I have personally seen some transfer students who were netting 3.9 and 4.0 at their CC and then ended up getting 3.0 after they made their transfer to my university. The level of competition in a CC is simply not on par with that of a well reputed public/private university. This is not to say that CC students aren't smart or hardworking, but some are not used to the kind of work demands in a more cut-throat environment. So in a way, attending CC in the first two years can potentially affect your future performance at UCSD.

specializing in omfs at harvard dental is like landing on the moon, while right now you're jumping up and down flapping your arms. put in the work to get straight a's, and a few years from now you can start thinking about getting into harvard. being awesome at life will help your admission chances also.

well i dont really want to go that much to Harvard but since i didn't have a name there...... i choose it. it only appeals cause my grandfather went there.

and i skipped my senior year to go to cc by taking the CHSPE. =(

and yeah i really want to be a dentist. going to harvard does turn me on.
