I know there is talk about the military cutting a lot of the non-essential medical specialty spots. Does anyone have a rough list of which specialties are critical vs which aren't? As someone entering med school this year I really would like to know.

There is an official report which is classified from what I’ve found. Unofficially we can assume it’ll be gen surg, em, family med, ortho surg, and a few others that I forget. There’s much discussion on here about it so I doubt many regulars reply

Internal med is still primary care. They are always in need and can be utilized as senior medical officers, primary care, etc. Specialization for Internists is what is hard to predict. Likely those fellowship spots will be decreasing. No notable trends yet on 2018 1524 for Navy at least. We should know more in June when the 2019 is released.
