Hi there,

My DAT test date is on April 2nd and I wasn’t really planning on starting my studying until I got back to school next semester (around January 11th). So that gives me about 10 weeks to study and prepare. My spring break this year is from March 11th to March 21st; I don’t plan on going anywhere and just using that time to really finish my studying as spring break ends a little less than a week before I take the test. My goal is to get an overall score of a 22.
  1. Would it be best for me get on a 10 week study plan in order to finish up everything right in time for me to take the test? This was the plan I have been looking into: http://datbootcamp.com/Ari'sStudySchedule.pdf
  2. Or would it be better to do an 8 or 9 week plan? That way I could finish up the study plan and use the last week or so to go over the areas I feel less comfortable in (haven’t looked into finding a 9 week plan yet).
  3. What are your thoughts on taking a study course? The Kaplan course is offered near my campus, and I’ve been considering taking it. From people I’ve talked to in person, they’ve said it helped them learn how to study and what they needed to do in order to prepare correctly. That’s one reason why I would consider taking it as I’ve read a lot of reviews talking about how it’s a waste of money and students didn’t really learn much. I’m not really sure where to start studying yet unless I just followed one of those study plans that have already been created online. The only class I could take based on the timing of my test date would be February 8th to March 23rd.
So I guess in conclusion, I’m just wondering what would be the most beneficial way to go about studying and preparing for the DAT given a 10 week study period (hopefully that’s even enough time, not sure how long people usually study for this).

Thanks a lot!

1/2. The 10 week plan works for some, and not for others. You can use it as a rough guide, but I would ultimately create my own study guide based on your time/strengths/weaknesses.
3. Don't do a study course, they're hugely a waste of time/money. Study fundamentals with Ty Jacobs notes / Ferralis notes / Chads and practice using DAT Genius, DAT Bootcamp and DAT Destroyer. Good luck.

How would I go about making my own study guide if I'm not even sure where to start?

I didn't mean create your own study guide from scratch, but rather adapt Ari's guide to your own needs. For example, if Ari's guide says "spend 1 day on X", but you're weaker in that area, feel free to spend two days, and vice versa for things your stronger at.

Ahh okay that makes sense. Thanks!

Couldn't have said it better myself
