You need to know the following......1. Purpose......For example, IR is used for functional group analysis.......UV is useful for analysis of conjugated systems 2. Know the basics of each technique. For example, in IR we are causing molecules to vibrate by stretching their bonds much like a spring, and in UV we are exciting electrons from one orbital called HOMO into a higher orbital called LUMO. 3. In NMR.....both H and C-13...understand things like splitting patterns, and where certain shifts occur. For example, an aldehyde will show a signal around 180 ppm in C-13 and a signal at 9-10 in H-NMR. 4. Understand Graph interpretation. I have placed many such examples in the DESTROYER that you will find useful. The text by David Klein will also be very useful for drill problems and concept reinforcement as well. Hope this helps.
