Spectroscopy on the MCAT

Quick question: How many people are expecting and studying for spectroscopy on the MCAT? It seems like it is very tough to study for and I am wondering if I should even take the time. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

I would know the general wavenumbers for important functional groups for IR. Other than that I don't think you need to know much.

To add onto this, if IR is truly something that you can't understand, just memorize the general range for -OH and carbonyl function groups. Those are a very common set of functional groups.

Once you've read a lot of NMRs and IRs, it becomes pretty easy to identify different compounds just based on the graphs or based on numbers and descriptions of peaks. Its more of a practice thing.

I'm sure there is a reoccurring theme when it comes to IR spectroscopy... h-nmr also...

I guarantee there will be some sort of spectroscopy question... IR, NMR, HPLC, etc... it will be there... it has been on every practice test I've taken, and was on my real MCAT
