So, I understand the general grammatical rule is that the first time you refer to an "uncommon term," for example, The University of Some Gunner Premed at Yukon Valley School of Medicine, that you should spell it out and then put the abbreviation in parenthesis that you will use later (USGPYVSOM). But what if you are submitting a secondary that is only going to be read by the adcom at that school. Would it still be considered an unfamiliar term or will they assume you have gone full mental by writing out their entire school name in your essay?

If they use a shortened version of the full name on their website, you can use it too, without defining it.
