I'm a sophomore taking these classes, which is about 12 hrs, but I was thinking about adding another class. My options are Govt II (3hr) or genetics (4hr). Should I take another class or not?

O chem II lecture and lab
Accelerated calculus II
Cal based phys I lecture and lab

You know your abilities better than anyone so you should make this decision on your own.

If I was in your situation, I go with:

Ochem, calc, and govt. (Ochem was not easy for me when I took it so I rather play it safe)

I want to take at least 12 hrs, because anything lower would be part-time.

I agree only you know what you can handle. If you are going to take another class go with govt since it will be easier than genetics and give you a break from all the science.

I would think that it may look bad riding at only 12 hours so I would definitely add another course. Pharm schools actually do pay attention to your courseload (# credit hrs per semester or quarter) because they really load on heavy schedules in pharm school and they want to make sure you can handle it.

However, OChem, Physics, and Calc are tough enough on their own so I would not want to tack on Genetics but it is entirely up to you. Yes, you know your abilities better than anyone else but you probably have no idea how well you can handle this combo of classes so I would bet on playing it safe. OChem usually consumes people's lives since it is a dramatic change of pace from GenChem. I would take Gov since it's typically an easy class that is required at a lot of undergrad schools. Generally true rule of thumb = the more people at the university that are required to take a particular class, the easier it is (they can't fail everyone).

Yea, that's what I was thinking too. However, I can take govt II at a cc during the summer and just focus on math & science classes right now. I doubt the pharm schools would care if I took a govt class at a cc.

any more suggestions?

I had exact same schedule like yours two years ago. It was completely fine. I had time to do research that semester, so I would say it's okay to take one more class. However, I haven't taken genetics yet, so I don't know about taking it with other three classes. I would recommend you take one more GER class and it should work fine.

I would do government (it looks like it is fairly simple to you). Another science might be a bit of an overload, but hey if that's what you are into then go for it.

Also, another possibility could be that I could drop the phys and take genetics instead (either way i'll take govt as well). I mean since there's no phys on pcat, I can wait till next fall (Junior year) to start my phys. This way I'll know know the genetics stuff for PCAT, which I intend to take sometime next year. What is the best time to take PCAT anyways?

That sounds like a good idea to replace the physics and pick up genetics and then pick up gov - I concur. There is no good time to take the PCAT. I'd say when you have sufficient time to study before you take it. I took the Oct one because I figured being in school for a month and a half would get me back into the swing of things. Jan is a little late but not terrible if schools are waiting for a better score.

It seems like that the govt II class is closed. That's bad news because now I only have 12 hrs, which isn't very good. The govt II class was my only elective left to be finished. Is it ok if I take it during the summer at a local cc?
