Spring 2014 Oral results are in!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I took my exam on the 10th, and the results showed up on-line on the 21st. Very quick turn-around!

Congratulations. A milestone for sure.

Now, work on getting that dream job if you are stuck in a crap-ass practice that is treating you poorly. You're board-certified now.

Surprised the ABA website for public searches is still down. Usually they shut down the website for a few hours when updating exam results than the main website for searches is up again. But it's been 18 plus hours. Maybe ABA actually wants people to know their results before Joe Public knows.

That is insanely fast for the ABA.

Well done to those who passed. Enjoy the moment. :hardy:>>>>:barf:

Keep your chin up for those who didn't. It's not an easy test.

...I do have a conspiracy theory that the very early "results" were all part of the HeartBleed hack, and that someone with a sh*tty sense of humor has sent all of us eager saps a fraudulent "pass" score...

I suspect that they are passing many more people this year as "clearance" in preparation for the change in format to the OSCE. They don't want too many repeat test takers holding up the new exam format. Take a look at next years oral board schedule 2015. There are many more dates to choose from....interesting thought?

Do you really think all the stodgy old ABA examiners would agree to pass candidates on more lax standards in order to avoid an administrative issue with the format change? I doubt it. These guys view themselves as the guardians of the integrity of the specialty...I doubt they would lower their standards like that. They are permanently moving the exam to Raleigh, NC next year to be administered at their own facility instead of in hotel rooms. So the dates changes are probably related to that...maybe less testing capacity than the hotels? Either way, doesn't matter to me since I PASSED! I wouldn't have given my chances better than a coin flip after walking out of that exam.

I'd like to think so too but it might explain why scores are back so quickly....nobody will complain if they pass and therefore the grading doesn't have to be scrutinized so carefully. Are passing rates for the orals published? If so, we can compare to previous years and see if my theory pans out.

I've yet to see ANYTHING from our Board that would suggest they're interested in decreasing the amount of money coming in to their coffers, especially with that fancy new building in NC to pay for. No way they're intentionally lowering their income stream/examinees.

Oral Board pass rates are published every year in the ABA Newsletter (look at the ABA website); this year, like every other, the pass rates will be mid-to-upper 80 percent.

I passed. Hard to believe this 13 year journey of college, medical school, residency, and now board certification is over. I personally don't think the ABA was being "lax" in terms of lowering the standards to pass folks. I also know 2 very intelligent, articulate people who FAILED the exam and I am from an "named" program.

Congratulations to everyone who passed. I thought the exam was fair, but it was a beast.

Some very smart people will fail each year, just keep on going. I know excellent anesthesiologists who had hiccups in the board certification process.
