Hi. I'll probably get flamed for this....But, I've searched using "spring admission", "January admission", "Spring/January matriculation" and a bunch of other terms. I've come up with nothing. I am a Non-trad. My grades are great (4.0) but alas as much as I'd like to hasten the flow of time I can't. I'm not going to be ready to take the MCAT (under the best possible situation - ORGO I and II over this summer) until the end of Fall 2010. That leaves me with two possibilities: Wait until the Fall of 2011 to apply for the Fall 2012! OR find a program that accepts students for the Spring of 2011-2012. I think my potential time lines are correct. If you have any corrections please feel free.

My question is simple. Are there any US colleges that have Spring matriculation (MD or DO) besides St. Georges and other Caribbean schools?

Hope I don't offend too many of you. I did try to look before posting.

Sincerely,
SB.

I'm pretty sure all the US ones start in the fall. Does shaving 6-8 months really mean that much to you?

If your cumulative GPA is a 4.0, you may be in decent shape to cut corners on the MCAT, and take it before you've had any ochem. The ochem content is pretty small. So you could apply this coming June, if the rest of your app is ready.

there are no US schools, MD or DO that start in spring. All schools on the "mainland" start in fall. Upside is you don't have a break between ending med school and starting residency (which would mean starting to pay back loans).

MCAT. It's changed significantly since i took it, but there was mostly 1st semester Ochem on it, and little 2nd semester OChem. Only you can gauge when you're ready for the MCAT. Take some practice tests, get a question bank, do a review book and see how you're doing. Then decide to take it early fall and have late apps (not generally a good idea - early is SO key) or wait until next year.

I had almost no orgo on my MCAT from last year, but that was just the luck of the draw. And no, there are not any med schools (that I know of) that start a spring class in the US. Many of the Caribbean schools have both fall and spring classes.

What's the rush? Obviously, by now, this is a moot point. But why would anyone choose a Caribbean med school in spring vs. a US program in the fall???

I don't know how much you'd be missing, but I would consider self-studying for the MCAT in advance of finishing all the prereqs. I took it after summer organic I and a week of II (July 2), sent in my application before getting the score in, and it went fine.

Thanks a lot. Great advice. Good luck to you all in school!
