So, I wasn't able to make a ski trip this year. Last year I went to Bend, the year before to Salt Lake. This year I'm going to Japan in the summer, so no ski trip. However, Steven's Pass has a sweet deal that will let me get a few more days in this spring. For $85 they are selling season passes for the rest of the year. Their daily rate is $62. So, now on my post call days I'm headin' to the mountain. I haven't had a pass since I was a freshman in college. Any other good spring deals folks stumbled across?

I heard Steamboat is free in April this year just to get people up there… Dunno if it’s true or not.

My local mountain is going half price on weekdays- just hit it today post-call. So much fun.

is that Baldy? Still haven't made it that way. I rode several days at Bear Mtn when it snowed those two weeks in February and a bunch at Mtn High (good deal on wednesday night if you can deal with the crowd) but not at Baldy yet. Got some snow last week too!

Yeah, Baldy. It is frigging great, if you like the kind of terrain it offers. It's big (by SoCal standards), open, and natural. Trees and steeps are great. No crowds. An hour away from West LA. Nobody knows about it. I love it.

Here's a little TR I posted last year after a good storm- http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=493601

Bear is OK, definitely great for park if you're into that (I used to be in my younger days, no longer s/p shoulder repair). Summit is fun for cruising around on groomers and for teaching people, but I get bored there (I also used to patrol there). Mt. High is the worst ski area on Earth in my opinion- it's tiny, crowded, the roads are gridlocked getting up there on weekends, and it's just chock full of ******* teenagers acting like ******* teenagers. It's only OK when they have the East side open, and even then, it gets boring pretty quick.

They all pale in comparison to Mammoth of course- but what resident has the time to drive 5.5 hours each way to go ride?

cool, I will check it out. nice trip report. Mt. High is definitely a "well it's cheap and close so might as well" session; I agree regarding the crowd.

I was impressed with Bear Mountain, but we went on weekdays after it had snowed. My friend as a 4x4 with good tires so we were able to get there by 8:00 and get some runs in before the crowd. The canyons between the lifts and a couple parts you hike to (off to the left of the highest lift) stayed pretty nice all day. Definitely some good days this year..

I just returned from a week at Whistler-Blackcomb yesterday. It was my first time up there and man...I could not have dreamed-up better quality, quantity, and variety of terrain - and all of it lift-served! The snow wasn't the best this year (per the locals) but I had a great time regardless. Plenty of great powder was stashed in all the bowls and glacier areas. The new "Peak to Peak" gondola was every bit as amazing as I had heard.

As far as good deals go, the USD-CAD exchange rate is quite favorable right now.

How late do they have snow?

Didn't get out much this year. Just picked up a new Burton Feelgood for 50% off which I'm very excited about. Unfortunately, it's rained here in the Midwest for the last ~5 days. I may just have to pack the snowboard away til next year.
