I will graduate in May with my bachelor's degree in human bio and a minor in business. I'm applying in dental school in June, hopefully then entering in the Fall of 2012. In the year I have off, I think it'd be really beneficial to get my MBA, but I'm not sure if it will work out logistically. The program I'm looking at is at UMKC, its 21 months (won't be done before d-school starts) but it IS structured around full time jobs, which I will have all next year.
Assuming I got accepted, I could start in the summer and I'm pretty sure a few of my credits from my minor would exempt me from some of the classes, but I know it'd take me at least a year and a half.
Would it be worth the trouble?? I wouldn't want to commit to it and then not finish, or overwhelm myself when d-school starts.

If not MBA, what other recommendations would you have for my "year off?"

That's a tough one. I'm getting an MBA right now. Is it worth it? Time will tell....the thing is that the price for these degrees can be quite pricey. Although it looks fabulous on a resume/CV, and may open doors, be very careful about accruing debt. 40 or 50K is alot of dough.

Goodluck

I've checked into the cost, it'd be around another 20k (for this particular program) but if I do a post-bac program I'd still be paying tuition for that too... but it would be closer to at most 5k.

I was in a similar position. I had graduated in May, and because I didn't get into dental school the first time I applied, I found myself with a year off. Personally, I thought the idea of an MBA was a very costly/time consuming stepping stone between undergrad and dental school. So that summer I worked 2 jobs retook the DAT, reapplied, and then took a couple of classes as a visiting student during the fall semester. When interviewed, the schools seemed to like my decision to take upper level bio courses + labs. I was fortunate to get an offer back in December and am looking forward to working and relaxing before starting a rigorous 4 yr program. Just another option. Good luck!!!
