Any students here at SMU? What semester? How do you like it? Do you feel about the curriculum? Feel free to expand.

Ross has failed a lot of students out, and several of my friends are applying to SMU, and I wanted to learn more about it. How many fail out of SMU? For example, at Ross, we lost 14 people (started with 98) through our first semester.

I know financial aid is tougher to get there.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

I'm in 5th semester and I like it. Curriculum is pretty great and lots of good changes have been made since I've matriculated. The attrition rate is not high here. We have visiting profs who are mostly board certified to teach alot of the upper semester classes like radiology, clin path, medicine, surgery, etc. One of the big drawbacks is the high cost of living on the island, but most seem to manage. Feel free to ask me any more questions that you may have.

We're doing awesome. Others, not so much. Thanks for sharing your completely useless comments that show your quality level. 😀

Aggie, thanks for your insight. I'll send you a PM and ask if you will share your email to forward to my friend. She's not on this forum, hence my post.

Anyone else here at SMU????

:eyebrow: Some one needs to look into the mirror.

If you notice, I have always commented when people say how "easy" "awesome" or any fluff about vet school. Your post brought reality back to those who think going to Ross is going to be easy and transferring back into the US is easy may not be the truth. Sorry to get your panties in a bunch but a dose of reality always helps.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I have to back Chris up on this one. I don't think your negative attitude is helpful to you or anyone around you. When I read your other post about Ross, I can't help but wonder why you're wishing failure on your classmates.

I don't know what it's like for you, but I've found Ross to be an accepting place where the professors and the upperclassmen want to help you succeed- there are at least 2 TA's per class, and they seem to really enjoy their work. Don't get me wrong, I know it is tough, but most people I've met are also very supportive. Personally, I'd be thrilled if all 137 of my classmates graduated after 10 semesters. It's not like they only have a certain number of DVM's to hand out.

I feel like you're giving people a bad (and wrong) impression of the school.

The Ross grads that I have met or worked with are great. Any of the 3 caribbean vet schools will give you what you need to be successful.

SMU may not have a high attrition rate, but there are many other issues that we face on a daily basis that make things tough at times just like anywhere else. Veterinary school is extremely hard wherever you choose to go.

And I, for one, feel like you're always unnecessarily rude about everything. Stop coming onto the forum for the sole purpose of being a little snot.

Seconded.

By the way, how have you been, twelvetigers? I haven't "seen" you in a while (then again, I haven't really been on here the past few weeks). 🙂

Also, didn't you reply to my comment in the "transferring from caribbean schools" that really it was very easy to transfer, but you would never want to? Maybe something to think about is - if you are getting negative comments when you post maybe it's because you burnt too many bridges in your past.

Not to mention all of the awful remarks you've made toward CSU... Sorry you didn't get in, but Jesus, drop the attitude. I am so sick of hearing about so and so is such a sh**ty vet or so and so said that CSU puts out graduates who don't deserve to be veterinarians... Get over yourself already

Wow, what a bunch of nasty, rude, vindictive, and immature people making personal attacks on someone they don't know.😡 I wonder if you would act the same way in person. Probably not. It is easy to hide behind a computer with an alias and be nasty. Maybe it makes you feel like you're tougher, smarter, or cooler than her. Whatever the reason, it is uncalled.

I see someone who asked a question for a friend that's not on the forum. Nothing horrible about that. 😕A 14% fail out rate for a first semester class is VERY high. Aggie has the email to the person who is applying to transfer to SMU. Feel free to email her and ask her all about Ross in person. Also make sure to ask her if she is the OP or a friend, since you guys seem to have something to prove.

I know someone at Ross who went into a final with an 83% adv. in the class, and failed, and failed another class the same semester, and is now kicked out of school. If you will ask Ross professors they will tell you that the recent curriculum changes (no terminal dog surgeries, prosections in anatomy lab, and rearrangement of schdueles) is not for the best. That's reality and anyone that's taken a few exams at Ross knows this.

I know people from Ross, who have steller grades, who easily transfered THIS SEMESTER to OK, Tufts, Iowa, and GA. With the right grades the process is easy, after a failure it's not so easy. Your professors gladly give you LOR and it's not a difficult process. Lots have chosen to transfer because of the curriculum changes.

I have a sneaking suspicion you don't know the history behind all of these posts. All of the people who've posted in this thread have been around the forum a long time and have had many, many interactions with one another and the OP. While these interactions have been only over the internet, they've still been sufficient for us to get a sense of one another, know some of each others' biases, etc. So please don't think the tone of comments in this thread are based soley on the content of this thread alone. That is the furthest thing from the truth. These comments are based on perhaps a year-plus of communicating with one another and reading the things the others say on a wide range of topics.

The OP lashed out as soon as someone asked a simple question (and a question that, in my opinion, actually sounded motivated by genuine concern). In my experience, the lashing out was a rather typical response from the OP. It's still your prerogative to thing that everyones' responses to her have been inappropriate. However, it would be nice if you'd do us the courtesy of thinking there might be some basis to our (nearly uniform) response. With only a small number of posts on this forum, perhaps you could assume you don't know the whole story.

If you look at my above comment, I was actually not commenting on her original post. Rather, I was commenting, in the context of this post, on the rude comments the OP made towards someone who had replied to her first post. Mocking the "quality level" of someone who is at a higher level of education than yourself (the OP is a 2nd semester vet student, while the person who made the comment is a veterinarian who graduated from a great school (from what I hear, not that I have been there myself)) is not only a rude comment, but also a ridiculously unimaginative insult. My above comment was also driven by frustration at several previous posts where the OP has been unneccesarily rude to several people on this forum who, in general, get along well with other posters on the forum. And, I must admit, this frustration was compounded by how the OP's actions and attitude reflect on my school, which I personally really like for the most part.

Perhaps before you pass judgement on several posters who seem to get along just fine with each other, you should try to understand the context of their previous interactions with the OP. Even looking at the comments in the OP's second post on this thread may give you an idea of the negative attitude that we all seem so opposed to. Please click on the OP's username and browse her previous postings before condemning us all to the 7th circle of hell. 😉

You are correct (hence the sad face emoticon in my post). If you check my post history, you will note that I always (although admittitly sarcastic at times) am trying to help. Now if the OP said, I am doing fine, but one of my friends needs advice, I could help. I actually know quite a bit about vet school admissions (including carribean schools).

Obviously the OP has other issues and decided that I had some type of malicious intent in my post, so I cannot help her😳.

Yes maybe the process was easy but these are the usual things needed:

1. Top of class
2. Close to (or actually equal to) 4.0
3. Finished with 3semesters at Ross
4. LOR and permission from the Dean at Ross
5. Open seat in US vet school to start at the beginning of 3rd semester
(or start as a beginning 2nd year.)

Now all of this is not easy, especially seeing the fail rate at Ross, don't you agree?

The OP has routinely said how she thought vet school would be easy, and transferring out would be easy.

I am sorry but you do not make nice very easily on a vet student board by calling vet school "easy" regardless what school you go to.

That's a good one.

Whoever read that I wrote vet school was 'easy' must have been drunk  Can you cite the post, since you have analyzed every single one of them??

Here is my post:

That's what they'd like you to believe. :meanie:

There are many opportunities to transfer. Other students will let you know about it is you ask nicely. You must get stellar grades, min, 3.5 but more like a 4.0. I know 2 people are transferring into Tufts, 2 to GA, and one to OK this summer...

I came down here with that thought in the back of my mind, but I doubt I will even apply to transfer. I am learning so much down here, and there is so much culture to absorb.....

Pretty funny. A few people transfered to K-state last yearn mid year during the freshman year and sophomore years. Why would you say they must finish 3 semesters and join at the beginning of the 2nd year??? 😕😕 Please cite your sources.

I am flattered that you all want to know so many intimate details about my life. But, all I wanted to know if anyone here was at SMU, or maybe had a friend there, and what their thoughts were about the school? That shouldn't be so difficult. 👎

Pretty interesting someone with 2 weeks expereince at a school feels they are position to judge someone who is trying to help a friend?

If someone was so genuinely interested in my welfare, feel free to send me a PM or email.

Don't worry. Fat Palomino and I are quite good friend in the real world. 😉 Pink Panther, feel free to let me know if you'd like to say these things to my face. I'm on campus everyday.... If not, check in with me after final grades come back and let me know if you opinion has changed. You may want to read all my posts, too....

Ross is what it is. It is the best place for me and I am quite happy I came. Would I have gone somewhere else if I could have? Certainly. Will I get a great education here? Yes. They seem to have an 'accept everyone' policy and weed out people as they go. The weeding out process is not fair to everyone. I can name 3 people in 3 different semesters that had extenuating circumstances and would probably would have been well-received at US schools. Like I said, it is what it is. Take it or leave it. Some are leaving. I had only heard positive things about St Matthews, and wanted to make sure I had my facts straight before recommending it to anyone else.

Carry on with the personal attacks if needed to make you feel better.😴

Maybe you did not say it specifically, but your posts come off that way.

Just as such I did not say they must do anything, I said
"but these are the usual things needed:"

I am done here. Good Luck to you and your friends:luck:

I never said it was easy. Just possible. That's the end of that.

I apologize for the overreaction. "Hell week" (5 exams in 7 days) starts off our exam schduele in less than a week. Tensions are high everywhere here among 2nd semesters.

Hmm, interesting that you didn't seem to have read the part of my post that you quoted. I'm not judging you for trying to help your friend, I in fact did not have any negative comments to make on your original post. It's when you started attacking someone who was showing concern for you that I started judging. And yes, I have only been here for 3 weeks, but I wonder how long you had been here when you dubbed your group of friends "the A team" and starting placing bets on who would be failing out of your class? What a helpful and positive way to look at your new classmates/future colleagues. 🙄

Don't count on me looking for you around campus. In case you haven't noticed, I'm not exactly the biggest fan of your attitude. I prefer to surround myself with positive people, which I have! 😀

I prefer to surround myself with positive people, which I have! 😀

Reality check: 2/3 of people who start Ross don't make it to graduation on time. Do you think your class is the exception?
Check back after finals week 😉 You've got a lot to learn. We all do. 😀

In case anyone reading is genuinely interested about transferring from a Caribbean school to Kansas State, the students who transferred here mid-year freshman year had completed two semesters at St. George's. Yes, they had to repeat a semester with us before moving on to second year. The students who joined the second-year class in the middle of the year had completed three semesters.

We are not currently accepting Ross students as transfer students (long story).

This is the internet.... we have time. 👍👍

Haha. Amen to that.
I know Ross and Kansas no longer have a relationship in respect to clinical rotations.

I was told by one of the Dean's at Ross that this was because Ross students were being treated unfairly. They were getting the last pickings at rotations, etc.

Ross students who recently (last semester) applied to Kansas had their applications accepted but were told there were no open spots.

I've been to K State, have a friend there, and sincerely enjoyed the environment and would have seriously considered transferring there.

Edited to add: the friend that is asking about transferring to SMU came here with all intentions of transferring ASAP. I do not blame her one bit, given her situation.

DO continue to surround yourself with positive people. It will make the process much easier, and your life a lot less stressful. Good luck!

Maybe I'm missing something, and I don't usually post anymore, but I'm sorry I just have to call this out because this is getting really immature and ridiculous. I don't really care for someone who replied to the OP and got a semi-nasty reply back, but still. I received this PM from WannaFixFounder about a year ago and just happened to remember it.

title was "Oh supplemental"

FatPalomino was my old Screen name- the only password I could remember while logging in at work. I got a message that they forgot to ask me to send in a the verification- then an email about the cup0plemental- its the normal supplmental0 I am OOS. hope that helps. Have you gotten a supplemental and not an interview????

So she is the same person as FatPalomino and is therefore posting under 2 sn's and pretending to be 2 different people😕. Is there a law against that😛?

And now I will go back to not posting. That was just bothering me.

(Oh, and if there is any question as to if I just made that PM up, I can forward the PM.)

EDIT: Ah ha! now i am a "post stalker" whatever that means because I happened to read this thread. I visit SDN maybe 3 times a week for 10-15 min each time. News flash! Know how long it took me to read this whole thread AND make my post? Maybe 3-4 minutes. WELL worth my time......
Girl you have NO idea what it means to be stalked. NONE, because I can tell you it's a lot worse than someone calling you out on an anonymous message board.

Hahaha.
Wow, your classes much be easy, with so much time online to stalk posts and PM's from a year or so ago (please don't stalk me in real life, too). 10 visitors to my profile alone today 😱

It's become quite obvious that Fat Pal knows the situation. But thanks for being so nice to her. Isn't it amazing how different you act to someone.... when you don't know who they are.

I hope those who choose to make personal attacks and uses explicit language (last time I checked "sh**ty" was explicit) got some sort of infraction. Unless, of course, this is personal (pretty hard, since no one knows me in person... or do you? Are you hiding outside my window???).

If only you spent 1/2 this much energy into helping the community as you spent stalking and bashing me, the world would be a much better place.

Hope the new freshie Ross girl passes Nutrition and can keep anyone interested in Ross up to date with truthful information. I know, the truth hurts.... I have asked the mods to delete my account. I have a lot of better things to do than stoop to your level and make personal attacks which are unsupported.

OMG! You know I was totally thinking that when she said in one of her replies that she and FatPalomino were close friends in real life. It's sad that she has to sign on to another name to make herself feel more justified.

BTW, am I the only one who doesn't remember anyone using "explicit language" on this thread? 😕

:corny:

I needed something to make me smile tonight. Thanks, JerseyIsCutest. I hope you're doing well in vet school!

As for people who post under two names. 😱 😡👎

This is why I decided not to respond to her anymore. It was too much drama, with too little reward.
I'm sure since she is under a great deal of stress due to course work, she is lashing out unnecessarily, but OVER and OVER and OVER again?

Even on probationary status, she can't take a hint.

*sigh*

If it's kept up she may be banned.

This has gone way off topic.

If any pre-veterinary students are reading this thread and are actually interested in learning about offshore vet schools, give me a holler. I visited Ross and have classmates who originated from all three caribbean schools. So feel free to pick my brain.

Back to radiology!

P.S. - Any prevet student or potential transfer student into ANY vet school should watch what they say on these threads. You would be very, very surprised by who reads these things (personal experience 😎 ).

I don't know how to feel about people who go to Carib schools with the sole intention of transferring to a US school. I feel like there are other paths that one could utilize in order to get into school here, or if they go to the Carib schools they should stick it out there!

😍 CSU is awesome. Rated #2 and a reason for it. Check out the equine orthopedic center. State of the art with an MRI. The people are awesome, location amazing (#1 city in the US according to money mag). Some of the doctors are world renowed (cardiology, equine ortho, equine internal med). I think the only people that dont like it here are the ones who get denied.

I LOVE IT HERE and will continue to apply only to CSU until I get in.

Oh yeah, in state tuiton of like $7K for vet school helps too!

With this new information, I found this comment to amusing to resist putting up. Especially with all of the Colorado thread bashing that WFF started.

As for the PMs did you forward that to moderators? I'm shocked she wasn't banned for that alone.

No, please don't ban her! We need this kind of entertainment found only in the allo/pre-allo forums that sadly lacking here! 😆:corny: Nah, just kidding. The veterinary world is too small for these kinds of idiots. Ban her. 👎lock:

Honestly, I am really ok with people who go to the carib with the intention of trying to transfer back to US schools. If they are capable of being in the very top of their class there to make it back to a US school, then I would bet they have the potential to succeed in a US school. There are a lot of people who just "fall through the cracks" of the US system and are fully capable of achieving if given the chance.

On the other hand I think that carib schools accept a lot of students who really don't have the abilities to succeed. Which is pretty obvious from their attrition rates and generally I think is pretty sad. I'd personally rather get in no where than to have some for profit school accept me(when no on else has for a reason) so I can pay them a fortune for 1-2 years before they kick me out because I didn't have the academics to succeed to begin with.

I think I'm also okay with people coming to the carib intending to transfer back to the states, as long as they realize that it IS difficult, and as long as they are prepared to stick it out here if that doesn't work out. When I came here, I wasn't expecting to transfer (I don't think people should come her expecting to), but I think I'm definitely going to apply to transfer and see what happens. But I am aware that unless I have a rocking GPA and am at the top of my class, it is a long shot (and it may be a long shot anyway). But I would be happy to stay here, I actually really like the school. The main reasons I would want to transfer would be 1) to be closer to home 2) I wouldn't have to take the foreign grad exams and 3) airfare here (and living here) ain't cheap.

Okay, I'm done with the babbling now. Back to studying histo. 😀
