3rd year medical student here. It seems that a lot of parents are in an uproar about STAAR tests. Avoiding the whole "back in my day" introduction, when I was in high school we had TAKS, an exam where all the average/above-average kids ended up passing it and the kids who never applied themselves took the exam all day (literally 7:30am-3pm) and still failed.

Are STAAR exams actually rigorous? Ignoring the annoying aspects of standardized tests and the grading, etc, is the content really so difficult that students are failing, or are parents just upset because Johnny is not applying himself and fails STAAR as a result?

FYI: I have never taken a STAAR exam, and honestly, I am so far removed that I would probably fail it too. I'm just saying that exams like the MCAT, and USMLE/COMPLEX are SO much more difficult, and there is no way a parent can complain about them.
