I really like the St.Vincent's residency program for ophtho- good location, good training but there were rumors on the stabilitiy of the program. Has anyone heard similar or any updates on the issue?
Also-how do I find out if it will be okay. And if I rank them and i match there and the program dissolves by the time I get there, will i still be placed somewhere else, or will I have to reapply for ophtho? please, i need help!

New York Medical College-Saint Vincent's is one of the oldest residencies around (50 years). All of the New York programs are in some financial difficulties and NYMC-SV is definitely no exception. But they're planning to build a new hospital in a couple of years. And its a really great program---the residents are happy and well treated. They do lots of surgery and they've had an amazing fellowship match for many years. This years grads matched in retina at Harvard, Bascom Palmer and University of Chicago.

I know--I'm having a hard time with this too. Does anyone know how strong St. Vincent's relationship is to the Staten Island Hospital? How many months/year do the residents spend in Staten Island?

Any help would be greatly appreciated--maybe somebody who goes to school there or rotates there could shed some light. Any updates on their financial troubles?

so turn on the news...apparently st. vincent's is bankrupt...

are they closing down or being bought out.

is the residency closing? if so where are the accepted applicants going??
hhmmmm
