ASP - $15K for all physicians not in training - July 1st
ISP - varies by specialty $20-36K at present, should be July 1st, but they push it to the following fiscal year, so that should be October 1st, but they usually don't actually have the money until late November (it was December last year)
BCP - $208/month - after you're board certified
VSP - $466/month after your intern year, increases to $1000/month after you have 6 years creditable service

There's also MSP but that's only for people who sign extension contracts. MSP contracts may also increase ISP depending on specialty and contract length. ECISP is also rarely used and is an increase in ISP for people who sign extensions to their contracts when they are within 18 months of fulfilling their existing initial contract.

Don't count on just automatically getting any of these - admin will fill out and route the paperwork for you, but don't expect them to do it without you telling them to do it.

If you finish off cycle, do you just get this when you are done with residency?

so this is the same time each year for every person, one person told me it was just delayed 3 months after becoming staff, not true?

thanks for the info

You can take it any time you're out of training, but it obligates a year of service from that day (which is served concurrently with educational obligations).

No, the delay is a consequence of incompetence; it isn't by legislative design. They just don't have any money that late in the fiscal year, and people who finish residency in the July/Aug/Sep time frame are just outta luck for having the audacity to want their pay at a time when all the money has been spent on office furniture and the civilian of the quarter appreciation ball ... or whatever it is they blow all their money on.

The net effect is that the government cheats 90% of military doctors out of a year's worth of ISP - most won't accept it halfway through their final year of obligated service because it will effectively extend their obligation another ~6 months. (Bet your HPSP recruiter didn't mention this.)

As I understand it, people who finish residency off cycle are much more likely to get it right away. I believe the current instruction states those who finish residency after a certain cut-off date (May? June?) have to wait until the following fiscal year (Oct) to collect ISP.
