Hi everyone,

In another thread someone mentioned that Stanbridge is only accredited nationally, and has no regional accredidation. The fact that they are not regionally accredited can affect future employment, and the pursuit of an OTD at an accredited university (based on convos in that thread). People on that thread said Stanbridge is considered a trade or vocational school, and not a real university.

If this is the case, why are you going to apply to Stanbridge? I want to apply to this school, but I'm scared to bc of the limitations it places on future opportunities. Do you guys know if a Master's from Stanbridge really would limit where you can work and if one could pursue an OTD?

Thanks!

It's my understanding that attending a nationally accredited school will make it difficult to pursue an OTD later on because the credits don't always transfer. If you are serious about pursuing a doctorate later on, I wouldn't go to a nationally accredited college. I'm not really sure if you would have problems with finding work after attending Stanbridge. I was worried about this too, but I think as long as a school is accredited by ACOTE, you shouldn't have issues getting work. I also emailed aota.org a while back to ask how Stanbridge can be accredited by ACOTE because one of their requirements is that the graduate school needs to be regionally accredited. Here was their response:

In response, Stanbridge College is fully accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. Even though this is a national accrediting body, the accreditation they provide covers the regional accreditation requirement in place by ACOTE. Some agencies, however, are not national accrediting bodies and focus on specific geographical regions.

It's not super clear, but it seems like whatever Stanbridge did, it works for ACOTE.

I hope this helps!
