... and submitt our secondary application, already! e-mail.

Has anyone else been getting these reminders like crazy mad? I swear, I've gotten like 4 of them. I'll get to ya... sheesh.

What reminders? I only got one when mine was complete:

Thank you for completing the application to the Stanford School of Medicine Medical Doctor or Medical Scientist Training programs. Your application is complete with the supplementary application, the fee, and the letters of recommendation. You may check the receipt dates of those items on the application website. Please keep in mind the following points about our application process.

1. The review completion of your application is not only based on when it is received.

2. The process for a final decision to be made can take up to 4-5 months.

3. Our interview season is from December through April.

4. Invitations to interview will be sent beginning at the end of October and will continue through April.

I keep getting these like every other day:

"According to our records, you have been invited to submit a supplementary
application. However, it has not yet been completed and submitted. If you
intend to submit the application to the Stanford University School of Medicine,
we encourage you to do so as soon as possible. The final deadline is
November 15, 2006."

It's not like I've been sitting on it for an extremely looong time... I've just been chugging away at other stuff.

Apparently we're the only ones taking more than two weeks to complete the secondary... 🙂

Ahhh... but maybe you're not a true procrastinator like me. I've had their secondary since that baby came out, and I've done absolutely nothing to it. Not a thing.

This level of procrastination is for ninjas only.😎 😉

Yes. And how are you diverse? Oh, and don't forget to mention how that has affected your preparation and goals for medicine. In half a page.

Same with me. I've been holding onto it, but I think I just might finally get it out today. It's tough because I had to write them all from scratch.

Well, I've got that down... I'm going to sorta recycle my Baylor essay a bit. What's got me all confuzzled is how to approach the "why are you cut out for ________ practice" essay. Why am I cut out for academic medicine? It's difficult to put into words.

I'm mightily tempted to just answer "because my mama says I'm awesome like that".

I tried reworking Baylor, but I wrote about moving to TX right before the hurricanes in my Baylor essay, which is a "special experience" but says nothing about diversity... I do have something to write about, but I think there are two questions in that diversity essay: what has your diversity taught you AND how will it make you a better doctor? The second one is stumping me.

oh man, the worst part is that i'm not going to continue my app and now i've got to notify them IN WRITING! wtf man??

i get 'em too...and they're annoying, cause it's not like they're gonna want me anyway! they just want my money.

That would make it difficult. I wrote mine about being the first college grad in my family and coming from a farm community, working odd jobs, being homeschooled, etc. I'm just at a loss at how birthing sheep will make me a better academic physician.😕

Yikes. You could go for the "determination" factor. From what I've seen, that's the single thing that an academic physician absolutely requires.

Or, if you're interested in OB and want to tie the sheep thing in, you could write about how your experiences with this gave you all sorts of ideas on how to improve reproductive practices in the US... though this could be misinterpreted...

Probably cuz their rent is due.

I could totally use the determination factor.. thanks.

As for the OB thing, well, I *am* ethnically Scottish so it might work after all! 😳 😉

Note to self: Give Stanford fake address post-MD.

Got the plan figured out, now I just gotta convince them to let me in!

anyone think that maybe they've had a lot less secondaries received this year? i know i applied, but probably wont be submitting a sec.

I think they'll send you a nasty-gram after their secondary deadline passes, so you don't really have to do it if you don't want. It'll be something like, "Since you never completed your application, we're discarding your AMCAS."

yea last year i'd get a ton of those emails too. just an annoying mass email thing, nothing to be worried about.

Not only have I been getting e-mails, but I've been getting letters via snail mail. Stanford, get in line and wait your turn like everyone else! Even my brother, who has ties to Stanford, has been hounding me about it. Stanford people seem very pushy. After all this, I better get an acceptance or a very, very nice rejection letter. None if this, "there were so many competitive applicants but you just weren't competitive enough" crap. I want something along the lines of the Dartmouth letter someone posted a while back.
