how many weeks after your secondary application was complete did Stanford respond with an interview/rejection notice? how did they send it...regular mail/email? thank you

my application was complete on the 11th of dec and no news as yet. I guess I have the same question.

My app. was complete on 11/7 and I have yet to hear anything further.

my app was comlete 11/7 and I still haven't received anything....patience...lord give me patience!!!!!

Mine was complete 12/6, nothing yet. They are probably on their extended winter siesta. 😀 😀

their email said that they would let me know in 4-6 weeks.
Did you guys get the same email?

mine was complete and in review nov. 5, interview invite dated dec. 11, postmarked dec. 17, received dec. 27 in NYC, scheduled for jan. 16 (earliest i could find). the invite comes in a THIN 1 page envelope. dont worry if you dont get anything yet. they send out rejections as soon as they decide not to interview so no news is good news.
their screening process is:
first members of the staff screen all applicants for secondaries based on cursory review. 1/2 receive secondary. complete applications go to 1 faculty member and 1 student, who write evaluations and summaries of your application and recommend whether or not to interview. these evaluations go to the interview coordinator who then decides whether to interview or reject you. less than 1/5 of all completed applicants, around 8% of total applicants get interviewed ~ 500 this year (a little less than usual). of those, around 35-40% are accepted 4-6 weeks after interview (although they say they try to let you know before then). 1/3 waitlisted and the rest rejected.

good luck.

PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks Choker that was good stuff. It doesn't make me feel any better, but it's still good stuff.

I was complete 12/9 and nothing.

I tried to find out details about my app, but that went nowhere. This is crazy. Why couldn't I be a legacy or something?

actually, don't most schools just wait till like march or later to send out rejections. i guess stanford doesn't wait that long, according to choker, but what about most other schools. generally, they wait till march right?
what i really want to know is if these schools that haven't told me anything (most apps complete mid-Nov) are just waiting to reject me.

it totally depends on the school. stanford, pitt, einstein, and chicago are just a few that i can think of that have been rejecting left and right people that they have no interest in interviewing. columbia, yale, penn, and harvard are some others i can list quickly that wait till the very end to reject applicants.
if you're curious, check with the school. if you dont want to piss them off on the phone, just dont give your name (hang up if they ask!) and they'll never know it was you.

Tra202 & Dr. Don,

What email reply??
I don't remember receiving any kind of email saying they would let me know in 4-6 wks from the time of the secondary app submission. All I got was the confirmation letter of the receipt of my appl. I wonder the committee treat the MD/Ph.D applicants differently.... I'm applying for the dual. I submitted my appl on 11-21...when I called the office last wk, they told me that it's still in the hands of the MSTP reviewers. I don't understand why these folks don't make their decision quickly (reject or interview) so that the MD appl reviewers can begin reviewing of my appl...this doesn't seem to be a good sign. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm also MSTP and I had all my stuff in to them by the first of December, and I'm just waiting now. I feel kind of wierd too, because I've gotten interviews with schools that I consider to be better than Stanford...however, I'd definitely like to visit the place to make sure. Not only that, but my mom is a Stanford grad and the professor who I did research for knows a lot of people there so I'd think his letter would hold more weight. Who says connections help? Anyhow, they've been totally unhelpful whenever I've tried calling or emailing. Oh, well...

Good luck,

Adam

Perhaps the MSTP people are different fromt he MD people, but I've talked to Patricia P?rez on probably half a dozen separate times, and she has been great to me! Send her an email - she usually replied within about 15 minutes. She has probably been more helpful to me than any other admissions person I've talked to.

Hey Brondonite,

What's Patricia Perez's email address? Can you also provide us with her direct #?

I've e-mailed Albert Chavez (Associate Director of Admissions) several times; he has been extremely quick to respond and very helpful as well.

I just got an email response from A. Chevez, saying that my appl was not assigned til early December and it is not unusual for a decision not to have yet been made, especially with all of the holidays. If the decision is made not to consider my application for an MSTP interview, then it will take at least another couple of weeks for a decision to be made on whether or not I will be invited to interview for the MD program.

Her email: [email protected]
Her direct #: 650-724-5515

The other admissions councellor is also quite good. His name is Juhn Verano (not sure how to pronounce that, but... 😀 ). His direct # is 650-724-5516.

Good luck!

My app was submitted on 11/12 and it was complete on 11/29 and I have not heard anything.

I called them about 01/04 and they said that my application had not been reviewed by the student and faculty (like Choker said). She said that could take about two weeks. Then it would be reviewed by the dean and a decision about an interview would be made. Another potential 2 weeks. Then it might take another 2 weeks to send the invite, etc. So, it could take all of December, January and probably February for them to get to me IF they decide to interview me.

Thus, there is plenty of hope to go around for all. 🙂
