Hey, I'm starting my Kaplan classes tomorrow and im plannning on taking the DATs some time in January. I haven't really started studying yet and Im taking a full course load. I was wondering if anyone else did this and was successful, or am I just crazy.

I think you should devote a good amount of time to studying the DAT since it's one of the important tests of ur life (I assume!). I took the kaplan course while I was taking a full load (which wasn't really that hard), and I fell behind a lot and couldn't catch up with the materials till much later......
I don't know if u r applying for the 2007 cycle or the next one, but perhaps u could postpone it if u r applying for 2008. or take less classes and study harder.....either case, my advise is that u should definitely take some time off at some point to JUST study the DAT...the time u need to study depends on u and how prepared u r, but make sure u r really ready when u take the exam...

i took 16 credits when i took the kaplan class. 11 credits were major science courses (physics 2, orgo 2, and ecology<-not really major, but still 400 level). religion and philosophy made up the other 5. it's doable, i came through wth a 3.3. but it's challenging, at least i thought so. i have to admit though, i didn't learn a whole lot from the kaplan class sessions. most of what i learned was from study time of my own from the books. different for everyone though. good luck!

I took the Kaplan classes during the summer of a full-time job. I guess it's somewhat comparable to a full course load minus the homework (40 hours/week). Every Tues and Thurs for three hours really took a toll on me. I started out strong, but fell behind on the readings. Just learn to budget your time and really (I mean really) maintain discipline. It ain't no walk in the park my man. I would suggest devoting a solid month or so of straight DAT studying to tie everything together (either on xmas break or first month of summer). Keep us updated.

Im applying for the 2008 cycle. Im taking 16 credits, one is an online psychology course so it doesnt really count. My hardest class is Human Physiology though. I finish my term around the same time my kaplan classes end which is mid december and i plan to study all through my christmas break. If i dont feel prepared ill probably push the date back i think.

Hi everyone,

I am so happy to learn other people are doing what I'm doing, too! I was intimidated as it was with all the CRAZY high stats everyone was flashing around, but was blown away when I read that some people don't think about work, school, food or water 🙂) )for the entire DAT stuying period. I thought I was the only person tyring to survive financially, take classes, and get prepared for the biggest test of my next two years all at once (consequently, I felt like an idiot).

I plan on maticulating in 2008. I am currently a full time dental assistant, part time babysitter, and part time student taking post-bac stuff. My Kaplan class starts in two weeks, and I am aiming for the first week of Feb. as my first exam. If I totally suck, I plan to take it in May. As for school, thank god for online courses!!!! If anyone wants to collaborate online with class suggestions, study tips etc. let's PM each other. Good luck!
