Starting new activities during middle of gap year

Hey everyone

I recently began a couple new volunteering activities during the middle of my gap year. Would it be OK to update schools with these activities? Or would it seem shallow and make it look like I'm just trying to cram in extra volunteering activities? (which isn't the case)

If it matters, my EC's are at least decent IMO, so I don't think it would look like I'm trying to make up for deficiencies in my application. I think it would just look like I'm strengthening my application further.

From what I can make out, update letters fall on deaf ears in most cases. It probably can't hurt, though, especially if you have significant things to report.
