Starting school next week! Any questions about the application process?

What is it like to play with a broncos uniform on?

But seriously, what school are ya attending and why did you choose that school? Did u have any other schools to choose from?

I chose Columbia. I also had NYU, Minnesota, and UIC (state) to choose from. I withdrew from my other wait listed schools, other interviews, etc.

Before interviews, UIC was my top choice. My interview went well at UIC, but the day itself was disappointing. I didn't feel like I learned a lot about the school and everything it offered compared to other interviews. Other schools really sold their school significantly better and it was just too big of a gap for me. They're also in the middle of switching to a PBL curriculum. While I can't say whether or not I prefer traditional or PBL more, I was a bit hesitant about being the first class or so with it at UIC. UIC is also one of the most expensive state schools. While UIC was a little cheaper than Columbia, I was told that the tuition is going to increase much more significantly EACH year than Columbia is likely to.

I really liked Minnesota a lot. They talked a lot about research and clinic during the day. The interview itself was a the hardest of all the ones I did. It's very structured and Q&A. Very situational based questions and you have to answer in a certain format with bullet points or something. I was very impressed with their school.

NYU was huge. Interview went extremely well. Very long tour. Purely a back up for me

Columbia overall seemed to be the best fit for me. I tried to like UIC, but I almost felt I would be going in blind. Minnesota has a nice campus and I really liked their school. I was surprised since I thought I did terrible in the interview. But I liked living in NYC more than MN, and I liked the school more as well. I forgot what the financial comparisons were for UM vs CU.

Great info. I applied to Columbia as well. May I ask what kind of stats got you in? Mine are strong but I don't have anything superspecial to set me apart like publications etc.

1) GPA - 3.55
AA - 24
TS - 23
PAT - 21

2) Decent amount of research. No publications, but I did my own projects and much of it was preliminary research for potential future publications... which really doesn't mean anything.

3) Club sport president, volunteering, shadowing, the usual EC stuff and PS that every single person says are great/solid/strong. You just need to show commitment to your EC. Not 200 hours over 15 different clubs.

More importantly, than #2 and #3, I thought my interview went very well. It was an open application and my interviewer came prepared with lots of "discussion" questions about my school, course work, research, and a lot about my PS.

You need to have a decent GPA (I think the avg GPA is 3.45??), solid DAT, and "good" ECs. A well rounded applicant is a good. Once you get an invite, the interview is probably most important, IMO.
