Hello,

I am looking forward to gaining a large amount of knowledge from this site and am happy to be here.

As some background and where i stand...I am 26, married, and trying to get back into school. In highschool I was less than a model student at a less than ideal school with an abysmal 2.5 Gpa. Fast forward a few years and after about 36hrs of community college classes in criminal and legal studies working towards a professional certification my gpa was at 3.8 (weird what a few years of growing up can do huh?YMMV).From day one my career has constantly had me in contact with medical professionals and....you guessed it....I started having that longing. That was five years ago, and while I enjoy my work because I get to continually help people, but something has always been missing. So with the blessing of the wife I am trying to get my start.

I am setting my sights on USF in Tampa to enroll for my undergrad full-time. It seems like a daunting task, quitting work and moving to go back for an undergrad at my age but I have to start somewhere.

Good luck to all in similar positions.

That's brilliant. I have a very similar situation and I still have biology background. In my case it is blessing of my husband 😀

Good luck to you too.

I am 41 and getting ready to start Medical School this years. So, I just wanna say it can be done. My advice would be that as you do your undergrad work, keep your GPA up and keep some professors in mind that you would need later to get letters of recommendations. As you do your undergrad work, start thinking about some medical and or non medical related volunteer work. I would even say continue your continue some real part time work in your criminal and legal field. A few hours of volunteer work a month would be enough and would go a long way when you are ready to apply for school and look good on your application. Good luck.

we have people in their 30s, 40s, and even 50s applying, matriculating, and successfully finishing medical school

This has always been a relief to hear. I recently took my ACT for the first time due to being considered a low level transfer student by USF's standards. What an experience! I feel old now.... We will see what the result is, though I know my understanding of math is basic at best so I imagine that is where my struggle will be.

I transferred to USF after getting my A.S. at 25 years old. Good luck.
