Can anyone help lead me the way, any help is appreciated. I’m almost done with my associates and about to be working on my bachelors. Not sure what to major in but I heard that doesn’t matter anyways. I’m minoring in biology and trying to knock out whatever pre reqs I can. I’m 27 and I live in the GA area. Heard a lot of good about Mercer also

You need to do:

1) pre-reqs - major doesn’t matter just study something your passionate about

2) obtain a GPA of 3.6+ (averaged over all classes at all colleges, your Associates classes included)

3) study for and take the MCAT scoring at least a 508

4) obtain clinical and volunteer experience in the community

5) be prepared to submit AMCAS on June 1 of the year you’re applying

I think this is something I will be passionate about.

Main thing I’m worried about is making sure my family is financially taken care of while I’m jobless and attending med school.

Now think about how long it will take to become self sufficient. 2 years for the bachelor, 4 for Med school, 3-5 average for residency.

So what do people do that are in med school needing extra income. Paying mortgage? Car Ins? Things like that.

Live cheaper and have the other parent work

Yeah your right, I guess that is the only other option there is. We have a pretty big family but luckily all the kids are about in school now.

Like I said, think hard if it’s really for you. A decent amount don’t make it through to the finish because they didn’t think it all the way through. Simple enthusiasm will only take you so far.

Well I really want to do it. I Have always wanted to. Just a few obstacles that we may have to go through. Me and the wife just had a long talk about me going ahead and getting her started on school so when the time comes, she will have a decent paying job rather it be teaching or whatever it is she wants to do. She’s been a stay at home mom for a while but now they’re all about in school. And this med school wouldn’t require us to move for those 4 years. And I still have about 2-3 years before I will be starting if I do manage to make it in

“This” med school? Like only applying to one?

Yes. The university has a guaranteed acceptance program with VCOM for those that can maintain gpa, good MCAT score, and they set up all the volunteering and shadowing that the med school requires.
