Hi- I am a non trad applicant and having been doing research for over a year now.... I asked the lead researcher in the beginning of June for a LOR... Still hasn't written it and is supposedly in Africa until next week... My secondaries are complete except for this LOR...
I dont know what I should do....I completed everything early and I feel this is really going to hurt me getting interviews by its getting late. Any thoughts?

I've contacted both her and another supervisor at the hospital where I worked continually for about a month now

... And?

A research letter isn't required at most schools. Just submit without it then update when you get it in.

Right....but it is also one of my main letters/ and well known person/ institution in my area.... I don't want to be complete and then the committee reviews my app before the letter is submitted.... Or am I just over thinking this?

Well, did you hear back from either person you contacted? Obviously you want to get the LOR if at all possible, but there's definitely a point of diminishing returns here. If he/she can't get the letter to you in the next couple of weeks then I would just move forward.

I think you're overthinking your problem and underthinking the question Nick and I asked you.

Yes- she is suppose to be back this week... Emailed and phoned yesterday with no response-- will wait it out until next week, and if it's not written I will take them off for now.

No one Has a definite date to when she will return, since she's been in Africa since the beginning of July-- and was suppose to be back August 1.... I've been back and forth with the office, but they cant give me a definitive answer when she comes back/ when my LOR will be finished

In that case it sounds like she will be back soon, so I would just hold out. If you're looking for an arbitrary deadline, though, I would say that after September 15 you move forward. It's starting to get to the later side of things at that point.

You can be subtle with reminding her. Give her a gift and tell her thanks, and she'll probably get embarrassed enough to send it in as soon as possible.
