State College Transferred to University

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
it's all going to depend on your MCAT. if you score 30+ apply to both MD and DO. less than a 30 and you can still apply to both, but i'd say DO heavy. that's assuming we're talking a 27-29. less than a 27 and DO is far and away your best chance.

Unless by state college you mean a community college, where you went to school does not matter (or I should say is a very low factor in determining whether or not you gain acceptance). Now, if it is a community college and you took all your courses there, I'm unsure of how ADCOMS look at those grades. They may want the pre-reqs to have been completed at a 4-yr college, but don't quote me on that.

However, if you went to USF/UF/FSU/UCF/FIU/FAU/FGCU/UNF/UWF/etc., you have absolutely nothing to worry about, as they won't hold you back anymore than you let them. Don't go into an interview with some sort of inferiority complex about the school...maybe some of the Top 10/20 schools give you a boost, but if you do well on the MCAT, then you can show your knowledge compared to those grads.

Just rock the MCAT and you'll be fine. I'm assuming by state college you mean a small state school that isn't accredited as a research university. That shouldn't hold you back, and you've transferred to a more "competitive" school, so if anything you've been moving upward. (not that the specific undergrad matters much outside of the top 10-20 schools)

Keep volunteering and taking up leadership positions. Focus yourself on getting a strong MCAT score and you'll be in a position where you can apply rather broadly with a diverse range of schools.

It was a community college but they became a state college my sophomore year, that's why I ask. I'm starting at FAU and they're sister schools so I don't know I think if i do well on the MCAT it really shouldn't matter. I made sure I learned more than enough and I didn't take the easy professors. I read the MCAT books and I can go through the review sections and answer 75 percent of the questions. I don't think it will be a big issue I spoke to the guy who did the SI for my organic chem class and he went to the same college, transferred and is now doing a neurosurgery residency. He told me that the ADCOMs he was part of didn't care as long as you performed well @ the University. I think the material is the same everywhere you go so since I was proactive in my learning I'll be alright... granted I do well on the MCAT..

Thanks a bunch guys.

Thanks dude 😛 I totally follow you on that inferiority complex, it doesn't bug me I plan on doing well in upper division and learning as much as I can. The textbook is the ultimate professor.

Yeah, as long as the schools accept the CC courses, you're good to go. Good luck with everything!

OP if you were able to do all that EC's and get good grades while helping to support your parents, I think adcoms would be foolish to care where you got those grades.
