State correctional facility

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I don't know about working as a contractor, but one of my good friends came very close to taking a full time corrections job after graduation. Hard to beat the hours, limited formulary, lack of insurance issues, benefits.

Yeah but what is the pay like? I googled and found a Federal Bureau of Prisons job posting for a pharmacist with a 65,000 to 85,000 pay range. Ummmmm....65,000!!!!! WTF

In my experience, the actual salary is much different than what is stated. Range on job posting may say 65-85k but when they adjust your pay grade it is more reflective of current market value or better. The amount of clinical work will greatly vary by site, with some state/county facilities having very progressive pharmacy programs and others being out dated, lick it and stick it dispensing mills....
Example: Job posted at 85k
Actual starting salary turned out being: 118k, plus pension, employer 457b contribution, amazing hours/no weekends/holidays, and great health insurance.

If you are working as a contractor and not actually working for the state/county directly then your experience could be very different.

Yes. That would be a cotract through an agency. No benefits and hopfully will get a permenant position in future.

The huge pension is the biggest perk of working in a correctional facility, nobody gets pensions like government employees get pensions.
