Do I need to take a licensing exam for every state I want to practice in? Or are there licenses that cover geographical areas.

Once I get a state license, how long does it last? Is there just a simple renewal process?

If theres a website that lists this info please feel free to direct me. I just havent had any luck.

Try googling the state dental board of the states you're looking at. Getting your license is different and specific from state to state, including how long it lasts, etc. For example, to practice in NY, CT, or CA you could do a PGY-1 and be eligible. CT and CA still have the options of taking an exam. Another thing to look at is reciprocity. If I work X years can I go to your state? Some states want a NERB/WREB-type exam within 5 years of applying, even if you practiced for a bit. On top of everything, licensing is a hot issue right now, and many areas are looking to revise this. So take the NERB now for one state and then down the line, it may not be required anymore. I would look at each state you're looking at and take the exam will cover most of them. So yes, there are exams that cover broad regions (NERB --> northeast, WREB --> western regional, one or two others) and aren't state by state.

I think ASDA might have a publication on licensing that puts this all together for you, but I have not seen it myself.

Good question. Also, what about CE credits? Does anyone know, can we apply the CE credits obtained for license "A" to license "B" as well?
