Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone knew this:

Is there somewhere I can find out whether DO schools have preferences for in-state/out-of-state/neighboring-state applicants? I know in the MSAR book for MD schools they list these things, but cannot find anything like that in the CIB. I just want to make sure I don't apply to schools that take mostly their own state people or only people from neighboring states.

Thanks!

(I tried searching for this but couldn't find it. If there's already a thread about this I'm sorry!)

Michigan, Texas, Ohio, Oklahoma, West Virginia... if my memory serves me correctly.

I believe you have to go to the individual school websites, unless someone compiled a list. VCOM, Western's NW track, PCSOM, and PNWU have preferences for applicants to be from the region. I know VCOM does accept students from outside the Applachia region, but I believe they interview applicants from the region first. Oh, and I think NYCOM has a preferance for NY applicants because OOS get later interview dates.

Almost all schools are going to have a preference for students in their region since the school is usually chartered to help educate those areas. State supported schools usually have state preferences. Private schools are usually regional. I wouldn't let that influence you too much, however, since schools take students from outside their areas every year.

I agree, but there are some schools that (Western's NW track..I was sorely disappointed) who won't take schools outside of their perferred region.

Is it only state preference or general area preference. For example I am from NY, so would that help me get into say PCOM?

Mostly regional preference with the exception of state schools. I don't think PCOM has a strong regional preference.

PCOM def has a preference for PA residents. Maybe a little for the surrounding states such as NJ, DE? Not sure though.

The Northwest track (Oregan...for 2011 marticulation) is only open to students from that region per an email I received from an admissions counselor at Western.

What about the California track? I don't care for going to Oregon.
