I am applying to MD schools for 2016 admission and wanted to know if anyone would have some insight into my situation with state residency. so,

Originally from: NY (parents still live there)
Went to college in: Rhode Island
Currently in: Massachusetts (last two years and continuing for 1 more)

So technically I am a Massachusetts resident, but I want to apply to the SUNY schools and was wondering if they have ever been lenient in granting someone in my position in state status for tuition/ admission purposes.

Also, what should I list on my application? Currently I have my parents address as my permanent address and Mass address as my preferred address. Also, currently I have Massachusetts for my "residency" but could I list NY even though I don't live there? I do consider my parents home more of a "domicile" then my apartment, and I also still have a NY state licence. (also, if this helps, I am not dependent on my parents, but I am on their health insurance and have always intended to move back to NY eventually.)

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you wouldn't be considered a MA resident for medical school purposes. MA has stricter requirements than most other states.

"show proof of continuous Massachusetts residency as an independent person for a period of not less than five years immediately prior to enrollment.”

Yeah, this is why I was hoping maybe I could get new York state residency..Trying to figure out if I can do that or if I am just stuck in residency limbo where I have to list mass as my residence even though it allows me to apply to no state school.

Where are you registered to vote/have you previously voted?

Also how long did you live in NY? Did you go to HS there? Even if you don't technically qualify as an IS applicant, you could potentially be an applicant with a very strong connection to the state

I have previously voted using an absentee ballot (while I was in college in RI). Currently I am registered to vote in Mass I believe.

I lived in NY for the first 18 years of my life and went to high school there.

I ended up listing Mass as my residency because even though I have strong ties I don't think I am technically a NY resident... Will NY schools take these ties into account even if I don't have NY listed as my state of residence? I did list my parents house (which is in new york) as my permanent address...

Thanks!
