Hi friends, I need some input on where you think my state residency is located.

Here's the situation. I am attending dental school at the University of Utah this August and hope to get in-state tuition there. I am originally from Ohio, but I have been attending BYU-Idaho for the past four years. During the summers, I live with my family, who moved to Utah 3 years ago. I am filed as a dependent under my parent's taxes, which should qualify me for in-state tuition. However, when I fill out the FAFSA, it says I am an independent because I am attending professional school. If I'm considered an independent I can't use my parents to claim my residency in Utah.

What do you think? Will I get in-state tuition? Also, when I am filling out the FAFSA, should I provide my parent's information?

Thanks!

You have to supply your parent's information to get the max loan amounts and if you have your drivers licence, home address and your family lives in Utah, I don't know why you wouldn't be able to claim residency? I would call the school and check with them.
