I am really torn between Case and Ohio State. The facilities are completely different and from what I hear...Case prepares you to be a better dentist! However, Ohio State is also about 100,000 cheaper! So, my question for all SDN'ers, do state schools prepare you to be a good dentist as well as private schools?

Depends on the school. Research the schools and you will get your answer.

Every school teaches you to pass the boards. You'll learn the basics in whichever school you go to. You'll learn to be a good, possibly a great dentist based on what you do when you get out of school.

My advice: Save the money, get your degree and spend the cash you save on quality CE once you get out.

Yes...often better; though the reality is that it won't matter once you're a year or more into practice. Most of what you do in practice you'll learn while in practice (experience, CE, etc.). After all, you'll likely prep as many crowns your first month in practice as you will in all of dental school. So why pay 100k more if you'll still do roughly the same number of crowns, dentures, perio procedures, etc in either school?

For your specific scenario, there is no comparison between OSU and Case...OSU is regarded much higher in clinical, research, academic and reputational regard. That's not to slap Case in the face, it's just to say that of those two OSU is a stronger program...probably in large part because of the cost. Often students who have a choice where to attend--read into that what you want--will choose a less expensive school. Sure there're always exceptions (a lad I know went to Harvard for name recognition only so he could have a better chance of getting into OMFS and his dad's practice)...but the above statement is fair as a general rule.

I don't think you read the OP correctly. It says that he thinks Case is a much better school with better facilities but OSU is much cheaper.
