its just one of the stock SDN avatars to choose from when you sign up. they aren't the only two with the "crazy doctor thingy" avatar.

to pose a conditional answer to the OP's question: private, if my financial aid packages make them competitive with public school costs.

Depends on the schools. If it's between downstate and nyu, I'd go with nyu. If it's between stony brook and nyu, I'd go with stony brook.

I am trying to make the same decision - go to stony or a private (not nyu).
Subconsciously, I think I have already made up my mind to attend stony brook, but I guess I am still hanging to a slim thread of hope (PLEASE, OH PLEASE CORNELL!!!!!)

hey knightinblue - just like you, it's cornell for private and stony for public. But, like you said, stony is awesome, way cheaper, and i actually think that nyc is really overrated. Still though, cornell has a lot of great features for a school (pbl, research emphasis). Let me know what you end up doing. Best of luck.

I'm really surprised by this poll - i didn't realize so many people on SDN are going to state schools. SDN just seems like the place where more people choose private over public for whatever reason. Could be a function of who has responded so far, but still pretty interesting.

I applied to 18 schools and have interviewed with 10... a mix of both private and public schools across the nation (from midwest and don't HAVE to wind up in one state like so many I know)... would like more feedback on what others' feelings are with regard to the state vs. private debate. I am considering paying out of state tuition for four years which would wind up being just as expensive as private tuition... anyone else struggling with the same question? I get mixed feelings from my state school (mizzou) and have been really impressed by programs both private and public elsewhere.

I don't want to do primary care and wonder if other people are considering the state schools that might be in my same boat...
