Hi there.

I am writing a statement of purpose for a preceptorship program in a dental specialty. This program will not provide any direct patient contact nor will it give me any qualification to practice this specialty. It would allow me to observe specialist students providing treatment and allow me to learn the didactic curriculum that a specialist student would be exposed to. In my statement of purpose, would it be wrong for me to say that one of the reasons I want to undertake the preceptorship is to improve my applications to specialty programs in the future? Would it be wrong for me to say that one of the reasons for attending the program would be to network and get endorsement (letters of recommendation) from staff at the program for future applications? I am not sure if this would be seen as being in bad taste.

Thank you for your help.

I don't think it's necessarily wrong to say it is a reason, but I think it may be better to frame it as a benefit instead. I presume you have reasons why you are picking this particular specialty preceptorship.

Would you be open to PM's?
