One of the people kind enough to read my PS brought up an excellent point, and I was hoping to get more targeted feedback on the matter.

So I used the word "soul" in my PS, not in a Bible-banging fire and brimstone way, just in a sentence. (For the record, I am Christian but not super religious.) Is this a potential problem? I don't reference my religious preference in any way or take it any further than that.

I don't see it as a problem at all. Schools don't discriminate based on religion, so even if you did reference your religious preference, it wouldn't be a big deal.

Theoretically....

Subconsciously it can play a big role (if the PS turns them off because of its religiosity then they can look at other parts of your app in a bad light).

But the word "soul" isn't exclusive to any one religion so you should be fine.

I think it depends on who is reading your PS, but I don't see it as much of a problem if it is not a religious context.

I never talk about religion or politics with friends/patients I come in contact with/other important people, because it's an easy way to get someone pissed off if they disagree with you.

Subconsciously, maybe. Then again, the reader could agree with the religious aspect of the application. Either way, I don't think that it makes that big of a difference.

Soul is a fairly ubiquitous word. I wouldn't worry about how it will be perceived.

This can also be an easy way to lose your job in a clinical setting. I have heard of people being dismissed from Counseling internships for bringing up religion with a patient.

I saw no problem with your PS, and I am an atheist.
