On the amcas application, I was told that I could list a class according the content of the course regardless of the department that it is listed under. For example, can I list Stats for Psychology majors as a math? And physiological psychology is that a biology course. I've talked to the professor and he said that if anyone is in doubt of the content of the course they can download the syllabus because he noted that he teaches the exact same course at the graduate level for biology students. I'm just not sure if the information that I recieved regarding this is accurate. And if it not I don't want amcas to place an X next that course and change it back. +pissed+

don't worry, my statistics for economics class was counted as math and had no problem getting verified. no X's.

How are the X's viewed by the medical schools if a correction is made? To me, why send the X's to the school. For the most part, it's not like we're trying to do something intentional. My guess is most of the mistakes are probably like listing a class as spring instead of fall or 99 instead of 98. If an adcom sees a bunch of x's does that hurt your appication too? 🙁

In the instruction book for the AMCAS application it lists statistics as a math. That's how I listed it last year and had no problems.

i put my psych stats both in undergrad and grad school as math and AMCAS did not change it. hope that helps!

I listed undergrad psych statistics and graduate level social work statistics courses as math, and amcas did not dispute either of those entries. UCLA has one year of math as a prereq and they counted my psych statistics courses as part of their math requirement.

I ended up listing all classes as whatever department i took them under - and AMCAS approved it. So my stats class taken under psych dept and I put as a behavioral sciences. For me, it was more of an issue of consistency. That way I didn't have to double guess if my biological anthro was behavioral or bio - it was listed under anthro so I put it as a behavioral sciences class. I don't think it really matters how you put it as long as you are consistent and have some kind of "proof". I would go with whatever gives you the highest BCPM gpa, but as long as you're consistent, amcas will approve it.

Adcoms DO see the X's. I had 8 X's due a combination of the AMCAS Web application's malfunctioning and deficient math abilities on the part of AMCAS staff (according to AMCAS, I skipped right over being a junior). My pre-med advisor tried to reason with the verification people, to no avail. She called my undergrad school's admissions officer, who recommended that I write a letter to each school explaining the situation. So apparently it is taken at least somewhat seriously. I assume it's a sign of carelessness unless otherwise explained. OTOH, it didn't seem to hurt me very much. One of my interviewers joked about it, saying something about there being a lot of problems with AMCAS.

To the OP: Stats counts as math. My econometrics courses were labeled math with no problem.
