Lately, i have been seeing a ton of posts about money and the cost of Dschool. It got me thinking, how many people here, on SDN, receive any scholarships. I think it would be a lot considering the high DAT scores I usually see. Also, in general what kinda of stats do you need to get a scholarship?

As always,

thanks for the great input

Edit: I know its different for each school, but in general.

Scholarships...from a merit perspective, it really really varies by school. I'm not sure what state you live in, but you kinda have to take into account the tuition costs of the school in relation to how much they will be giving you. Just to provide an example, I was awarded a rewable 18k scholarship to a school that costs about 60k a year (including living, books, everything). But, I am a texas resident, so Houston was still the cheapest option regardless of the amount this out of state school was offering. Texas schools tend to be cheapest in the nation, so they usually do not offer much in terms of renewable scholarships..
I got 10k from San Antonio
8K from Baylor
Nothing from Houston, but...I live in Houston, so it all came to the same amount in the end.
DAT-23/22/21

mmm that makes sense ...congrats on houston

I ended getting $140k from both Penn and UCLA. GPA 3.97/4.0; DAT 27/30/25

I don't think there's really a threshold for stats to get a scholarship. The schools that ended up giving me scholarships were more impressed with the "non-numerical" portion of my application. While stats play a role (and may get your foot in the door), it's the entire application that will qualify you for a scholarship (or even just an acceptance).

nice application, is there a reason why you are attending harvard vs. UCLA on a scholarship?

I had a 3.9 22AA/23TS and got no scholarships. Prepare to pay full price, but if you get scholarships it's definitely very nice.

I dunno how all schools do it... but I know Temple ranks their entering class based on GPA / DAT / LORs / even interview day. I think top 15 (or was it 25) students will earn some nice rewards (Minimum is like 10k a year, and sometimes goes quite a bit higher).

do we have to apply for scholarships? or do the school offer you themselves?

Schools offer them. There are some scholarships that you can find online that schools might email you a list of. A lot of those are special group scholarships though (minorities, women, etc).
