Stats of Applicants to Irish schools and Acceptance, Waitlist or Rejection

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yup, haven't seen much new activity regarding UCC. I accepted their offer from a cpl months ago. Since then was rejected from Limmerick, Trinity and NUIG. Got a rejection letter from RCSI 2 days ago. Still waiting on UCD, haven't heard anything from them yet.

Sorry Milo, ty for posting. It's weird you got Limerick's today. I got that one a couple weeks ago. Sounds like the rejection letters are slowly trickling out...

Np Lbgem! They must be rejecting people in groups or something like that hence the different mailing out dates. I have not heard any good news from ABP, so I am beginning to think that all that's coming my way are rejection letters. Wishing the best of luck to us with the last few remaining schools.

I received my rejection letter from UCC today May 27th in the mail. The letter was dated on May 16th. It came from the ABP office in California but was written on a UCC letterhead. I have now received rejection letters from all the universities I applied to (UCC, RCSI, UCD and Limerick). Best of luck to all of you. Hope you receive your admission letters soon.

Got a rejection letter from UCC today 🙁

I got a rejection letter from limerick yesterday, but it was probably due to the fact that I accepted a spot at RCSI 3 months ago.

Received my regrets from Limerick and Corks today

Sorry to hear that!

Which ones are you waiting to hear from now? Did you end up accepting your summer research opportunity, and if so, how is it working out?

I was advised by ABP that RCSI are sending out "letters" this week- I know not many people are still waiting to hear from them, so I am not really sure what that means. I didn't get my test score until after the 2nd interview date and I know their are rumors about them being full...does anyone have any insight as to weather or not 3rd round RCSI just doesn't interview, or how that works? Did peoples acceptances and/or rejections from RCSI come from Ireland or ABP?

Also, anyone know anything about updates from UCC/UCD?

Thanks for your concern; I hope you are having better luck than I am. Waiting for Trin (prob not going to get in at this point), UCD and NUIG. Other than that, my options are very limited. I did take the summer research position and won't know its outcome until mid June. 🙂

Did your acceptance, which came via FedEx, come from the ABP office in the US or from Ireland? Any idea if rejections come in ABP envelope or come from Ireland?

The acceptance was FedEx from ABP in California. Rejections came from Ireland by snail mail.

We're nearly in the same boat now. I've been rejected by RCSI and am still being considered by NUIG and UCD. To be honest, I don't have much hope in hearing good news from the remaining schools.

Happy beginning of June, everyone!

If Canada Post decides to strike in the coming days, they would have chosen a terrible time to do so, from an Irish-medical-school-rejection-letter perspective.

It seemed to me that the rejection letters came from the ABP office in CA.

Not all of them for sure. I got one from one of the schools directly. A couple others came from ABP with the school's letter/letterhead inside. It might be school dependent.

I'm with you ides...losing hope at this point. I still have heard nothing from UCC/UCD.

Yeah, loosing hope seems to be the running theme at this point. I was told as well that there was no news for me from UCD/NUIG - who knows, right? Hang in there.

Hey everyone,

I got a rejection letter from UCD today ( it was from Ireland) and came by snail mail ( it was dated for May 25th /2011). Good Luck to everyone.

rejection today from RCSI, dated 25 May. expected as I was test-scoreless for interviews and people saying GEP was overaccpeted! now waiting for UCC & UCD....

Acceptance to UCD today! Email update from ABP with notification that FedEx package to arrive soon.

GL to everyone,

A.

Grats!

Though it makes me nervous cause does that mean you get an email first before the acceptance, so no email = no acceptance?

Yeah I was wondering that too...unless you intiated the e-mail?

Sorry, should clarify - I initiated the email by sending an update with some new graduate coursework grades along with an inquiry about my status at UCD.

Ty for clarifying. One more question for you if I may - is there a charge on your credit card statement yet from Fedex?

Moose! Are you on these boards yet? I just got an email not about acceptance, but about the student loans at UCD. Did you end up getting it as well?

I'll quote it for you:

Congratulations on your offer to attend Medical School at University College Dublin.

University College Dublin is an eligible institution for the administration and processing of US Federal Student Funding.

Etc. I'm praying that this isn't actually a fluke where they send this financial aid email to everyone... Though if it is foreshadowing an acceptance, I will laugh because it's probably fitting that I found out about acceptance through the 'here's how to massively accrue a lot of debt' aka financial aid email.

I haven't gotten a Fedex, no charges on the credit card and no email about acceptance, just that thing. I would be so bummed out if that email was mistakenly sent to all applicants and not just the acceptance ones.

Got that same email this morning from O'Malley. Hope it's good news for you and not a bluff.

This looks promising friend! I wouldn't think ill of it. I did not receive an email like that either and I am still waiting, so take it as a positive thing. Congrats! What course did you apply for?

Thanks guys for chiming in. Still haven't heard anything other than that. I hope it's good news! I am still keeping my fingers crossed for all of us.

@Milo And the 4 year program I believe.

Congratulations to those of you who have received offers of acceptance. For those with good news and especially those of us who haven't received news:

Allow me to quote Dr. Sherwin Nuland, who eloquently states in The Art of Aging that wisdom means "having a certain steadiness of ongoing personal philsophy that is consistent while it is open to change...having a justifiable confidence in one's own knowledge and judgment, while granting that they are far from perfect; knowing oneself, while conceding the bias and insecurities that may distort such insight... being reflective, while committed to decision and action; being idealistic, wihle remaining grounded in what is... anticipating the consequences of one's choices and actions, while conceding the uncertainty of such predictions... maintaining a vision of a better tomorrow, while living in the reality of today."

Just found out that I received a rejection from Galway. Not a big loss though, since I couldnt imagine spending my days with 18 year olds again and spending 5 instead of 4 more years here... Plus got all my applications in for Oz, wouldnt mind a bit of sun after all these years living in Ireland. Plus I get extra points on admission for having a PhD.. thank god!

Now just waiting for UCD, UL, UCC and RCSI :xf:

Anyone else besides me an kermicrzy waiting for decisions from GEP programs? I'm still awaiting UCC and UCD.... Would love some insight if anyone has any!

Hey Moose. I haven't heard anything from UCC yet. The date of the acceptance letter from UCD was May 27, 2011 on mine. It gave us a deadline of three weeks from that date to respond 'for the consideration of waitlisted applicants.' I'm paraphrasing, but I am guessing at that point they would see how many spots are left and send out a couple more acceptance letters (June 18th).

It took a week from the date on that letter for it to arrive to me.

Hey Moose,

I'm still waiting on UCC & UCD too, I haven't heard anything. I was waitlisted post-interview at Limerick. I'm trying to figure out a plan B right now, I have mostly given up on Ireland for this year.

Just received a letter of rejection via email from NUIG dated June 9, 2011. That makes it two down, one rejection to go. Looking forward to the next application cycle.

I am sorry to hear that. If you are still for Ireland, once this admin cycle is finished, apply in August when it reopens so this way you'll be in the first cycle when the admin process happens again for next year. Don't give up! 😍

Thanks for your encouragement!

Do you think it might be a better idea to wait for next semester's grades (as I'm not going to graduate in 2012) and apply in December... or?

Sigh. Now that UBC will no longer count one's worst-performing year towards overall GPA, I'm wondering whether I should continue pushing towards that goal.

Questions, questions.

I remember a few years back, U of T use a weighted average that drops the 6 lowest grades. Also, U of O will only take into consideration the most recent 3 undergraduate years and weights them accordingly: year 1 x 1 + year 2 x 2 + year 3 x 3 all divided by 6.
