Steady increase in USIMG matching

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yup. They were supposed to go down as signaled by the circulating articles who have been around for couple of years.

Are you an IMG ?

they will drop to 0% in a few years don't worry

Who else would be filling the primary care residencies? Would you? It definitely will not be 0% in a few years, I can bet you on that.

A guy with 200k in medical school debt and no other residencies to go into will! #IncreasedEnrollment #StagnantResidencySpots

Stop this hatred. Like seriously, y'all need to chill on Caribbean students. Pray for them to be successful and don't seek their downfall

i'll pray for their success, but their downfall is already written in the stars.

It's not hatred, it's just a numbers game. More US MDs and DOs with a relatively unchanging number of spots means fewer IMGs.

Fewer IMGs means there are some who will obviously match. As long as they look better on paper than US MDs and DOs, they will have a shot. I know its a priority game but also they take quality into account.

It's just an observation, man. 2 more new US schools will have their first graduating class in 2015, and another 4 in 2017. The spots that Caribs fill will be shrinking. The only increase this year in US-IMG matches is from the all-in policy.

You're accusing someone of "seek[ing] their downfall" when they're only voicing an opinion on the numbers which is devoid of any wish that Caribbean students would match less. The poster didn't say "thank goodness the number will be 0% soon"...quit taking things so personally and crawl back to Pre-Allo where you belong.

I wasn't accusing him and just because my profile says pre-med doesn't mean am pre-med and even if so we all have rights to enter w/e forum we wish and voice our views out. What you guys need is humility and acceptance of IMGs and not seek their downfall. You know what am out!

There you go again accusing everyone of seeking the downfall of the IMG. Inferiority complex, much? I got nothing against IMGs but you wouldn't know that since you're just blasting everyone with blind accusations.

A big problem for IMG's is that US MD and DO schools are often subsidized by taxpayer dollars---> there is an investment and a NEED to see these graduates succeed by their respective states. It's a numbers game and the schools and governments will protect their own interests (us graduates)

So, I have heard there will be more US medical school graduates than residency spots. Is this a real possibility? That US med school does not equal a guarantee residency? And will residencies look for quality over whether you went to US med school?

Please no trolling, and I'm not trolling. I'm genuinely asking.

The rate of matching right now is pretty bad for USIMGs, but I don't think it will decrease that significantly. FMGs will be hit the worst. The 55% or whatever match rate that it is will probably go down to something like ~45%. Who knows though, maybe the Obama bill will actually get passed and there will be an increase in FM/IM spots.

As far as tax payer dollars, that is true, though I don't think it's even close to a major factor as to why US students will have preference over IMGs. You also have to consider though that there are quite a few hospitals who would not be able to stay afloat if not for the money that Carib schools have to give so that their students can rotate. Carib schools are like any other US school, a large % of the matched students match to places the school is affiliated with (which is almost never a major academic center). I don't foresee IMGs having much problem matching into those programs that most US students wouldn't even want to do an away at because they would only apply to the program as a safety anyway.

...What? Nobody is talking **** on IMGs. It's just an unfortunate reality that their match rates are going to drop because of the stagnated residency position growth and increasing numbers of MD and DO graduates. You can either deal with it (possibly by not going Caribbean or making sure you're in the top 1% of your Carribbean class) or you can put your fingers in your ears and yell lalalalalalala until you graduate from a Caribbean school with no viable residency prospects and an extra 250k+ of debt.

Listen son, my life has been programmed by God so my destiny doesn't lie in the hands on humans. Whether or not I will be successful depends on Gods plan for my life. I can go to Caribbean and match better than you will ever dream of. No wonder your name is evilboy. Light and darkness has nothing in common.

Based on the quote from the Psalms, I'm assuming you're Christian (or are of at least some Abrahamic religion). If I understand Abrahamic theology correctly, that's a pretty bold statement. You don't know what God has in store for you and you certainly can't order Him around as you please. God does what He does. Cut the hubris out of your life. Maybe He will decide that you won't go into medicine. Who knows? I certainly don't, but I hope you are successful with your endeavors.

I might be entertaining a troll, but oh well.
