I am an M2. I didn't do too hot 1st year as I slacked off a bit. I don't remember too much physiology, biochem, embryo, or anatomy (maybe I am just freaking out and I do actually remember more than I think).

I would rather have all Passes (our school is H/P/F) and get a KICK ASS Step 1 score. I know the two correlate, but I think I could do well on the Step if I prepared from now. I am doing much better academically with Path and Micro/Immuno this year as I am keeping up.

What can I do to prepare myself for the Step the best? I just bought First Aid and have started to read a page or two before I go to bed (nerdy I know).

I know doing well in classes will prepare me for the boards, but does Step 1 cover as much detail as they do in class? I would rather pass with high yield First Aid material and kick ass on the boards rather than Honor every class.

Not looking for an easy way out, just know I am not smart enough as most people to Honor all classes and dedicate 4-6 weeks of Step 1 studying and kick ass...I know I will have to start now.

I got all Passes 2nd year and broke 260.

But it's not like I barely passed - I was probably 75-80th percentile in each class. The little details do get tested, although they are "lower yield," you need this material for a high score. You should strive to learn as much as you can, and new material should get priority.

I attribute much of my USMLE success to Supermemo (google it). I think a little bit of daily review of older material goes a long way - most people don't do this.

In terms of preparing for the boards now there are a few thing you can do which mainly boils down to familiarizing yourself with the books you are going to use during your study month.

Get MMRS and use it for micro along with your class.

If you all do organ systems:
Read the appropriate section of BRS phys before you start the section
Do your coursework
Along with coursework follow along with RR path (or BRS path if you choose)
Do Robbins review questions if you have time
