This may have already been addressed in the main Step 1 P/F thread, but I just wanted to know if anyone thinks that Step 1 becoming P/F will affect how scores are evaluated by residencies for the next couple of cycles, while everyone's Step 1 is still numerical? Do you think they will be deemphasized, with more emphasis on Step 2, given that adcoms will know it's switching to P/F in a few years? If any adcoms on here could give their input that would be very much appreciated.

No...Step 1 will retain its importance till 2022 match i.e people going in September 2021 will use their step 1 scores. Since almost all programs stop accepting any more application in December , it is valid to believe that Step 1 will retain its importance till end of December 2021.

Beyond December 2021, NO.

So you acknowledge that this has already been addressed but instead of searching you make your own thread? What makes you so special? Use the search function.

This actually wasn't an easily searchable query and I didn't want to wade through 20+ pages of text to figure out if it has been answered. I also thought it would be good to open another discussion on this topic for people applying the next few cycles.

Thank you, that's what I assumed but it will be interesting to see if this affects the Charting Outcomes for this year

I don't think anything will change this year. Step 1 is still in and will be in till the end of 2021. The same filters are there.

The ambiguity is for people going for match in September of 2022.
