Hi all, I was just wondering for the upcoming year, when is the earliest date that you can take step 2 so that you have a choice of whether to release the scores or not. I have a Step 1 score in the 240s and I feel that I can wait a little bit to take Step 2 (is this true? probably going into IM). Also, I dont want to auto release my step 2 score in case it is worse than Step 1. So do any of you guys know when is the first test date this year that will let me choose whether to release test scores or not?

Scores are not auto released anymore, you have to manually re-transcribe if you get a new score after you submit your ERAS application. As far as when to take it, this question's been discussed ad nauseum on these forums, but you need to check into individual programs to see if they require CK for ranking. To answer your main question though, as long as you take it so that the scores come out after you submit ERAS (mid September), the score will not be automatically released. The NBME's reporting schedule for 2014, which is published on their website, would be where to start.

I don't remember the exact dates, but this year most of the August tests got their score on Sept 25th.
