Finished taking step 1/level 1 a couple of weeks ago and was wondering how common it is for students to take step 2 CK, if they are seeking an ACGME residency. Does it vary based on program? and if so, where would one find such information.

The common wisdom that's been told to me is that if you want to be a legitimately competitive applicant to MD programs as a DO, then you need to take Step 2.

I would take both, unless you think its likely you'll go down on Step 2. In that case, you might even take it, but just delay when you take it.

If you want to be comparable to your MD fellows in rank, your application package should contain the same material (that means same tests). You also needs to know many FMGs have all steps of USMLE taken before match (I mean someone from India or Poland not US IMG from Ross).
