What do you guys think about taking step 2 during 3rd year (I won't have done rotations in Neuro, Psych or OB/Gyn yet).

Do I really need to wait until 3rd year is over? Should I expect there will be patients with OB or Psych issues that I haven't rotated through that I can't get through by using basic patient care and common sense?

Thanks!

Buy First Aid for CS, which is the only book you need. Take a look at it. If you feel you could not adequately master those ddx without the rotations, then wait.

Also bear in mind that the key to this exam for US grads with good comm skills is SPEED in H&P and note-writing. You need to be facile and efficient. Finishing third year may help develop those skills.

maybe just read through acute abdomen stuff for gyn: torsion, endometriosis, stds, leiomyoma, etc. I wouldn't worry too much about neuro but obviously read the FA on it.

Don't blow off neruo. When I took it I had one case which was 100% neuro, and another case which was about 50% neuro. GRanted, it was pretty standard stuff, and if time wasn't an element it would have been no problem, but I'm not sure that without having taken neuro before, if I could have hashed it out in 15 minutes.
