Does anyone know if the Step 2 availability emails come right away when something is available? I have been checking within a minute or two when I get the emails, and there is never anything available. I thought it was because people were jumping on the available times, but today I watched an open date sit untaken for an hour in Los Angeles. I am looking for a Chicago location, so I didn't take it, but I am starting to wonder if the Chicago spots are similar, and they just aren't sending out the emails right away.

not sure. i had the same problem and was getting frustrated so instead, i just kept the window open and refreshing every so often (before it logged me out) and i secured an earlier date before i bet an email went out b/c it just appeared and i took it right away (and i never got an email about it so i'm assuming that's what happened). good luck.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. What a horrible system. There should be a waiting list or something. What good does it do to have a bunch of med students sitting around clicking refresh all day?

How long did it take you to find something?

I have now heard from like six separate people that they got dates by sitting and hitting refresh over and over.. sounds painful, but also sounds like your best bet if you're desperate for a time

i found something that day/session (it was at night) so i didn't have to waste days doing something stupid like this. dunno if ppl do this b/c they're frustrated b/c obviously the "email" notification system doesn't work as it should. or whether ppl started this issue by doing this and thus frustrating ppl to also start refreshing constantly to find a spot but seems like sth that nbme needs to address b/c it totally negates the use of being on their "email" list to get a new date. most ppl don't have the time to waste or take off to do this kinda thing.

I went by the emails. It took a second for me to find an open one, but I was determined one day and hopped on the website as soon as the email was sent and it worked out. Refreshing sounds PAINFUL!!! I would choose a day, keep your email and the site logged in and get it that way.

Here is what i did and it worked.

Create a new hotmail for that purpose and download msn messenger. change the new email notification from that 2 second default sound into a loud song that preferably doesnt have a 5 second delay at the start. Now assign this new email into the notify system, keep msn running volume blasted high, and even lay down that laptop near your bed when you go to sleep at night.

you'll wake up with a scare once that song blasts high BUT get to work PRONTO right then!
