Step 2 cs

For ranking & interviews for good US senior applicant....will taking step 2 cs in January hurt me? I am supposed to take it early oct but I now may have to change my date due to away rotation scheduling conflicts....

Yeah, it may hurt. Some programs will not rank candidates who've not completed all steps by the time they submit their RoLs. If it were me, I wouldn't chance it.
