I've read a few threads on this, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus. I am scheduled to take the exam in early April, and according to a USMLE handout I have, my score will be reported sometime between 6/18 and 7/16. If the score report comes back in July, or by same small chance that I fail it and need to retake it in July (in which case the results may come in as late as Oct), will I be able to start residency?
I know I should ask the particular program I'm interested in, but I am in the process of creating my rank list (deadline is in two days), and if most programs absolutely must have the pass results by late June, then I will be forced to rank the ones that don't have that requirement at the top of my list (based on info on FREIDA). Basically, are programs really strict on this? Regardless, I will have my diploma as my medical school only requires that we take Step 2. Anyone have any firsthand or accurate knowledge about this? I really appreciate any help.
