this is a dumb question, but i couldnt find the answer in a 10min search of the usmle website....

how many quesitons are there per block for step 2? is it 50? or is it 47 or so? the reason i ask is cuz the sample step 2 question blocks on the usmle website gives less than 50questions/block.

so 60mins/block for how many q/block?

thanks so much

I think it was 46 questions for a 60 minute block. I didn't realize this going in and it was a nice surprise!

8 blocks X 46 questions/block = 368 total questions

You get 9 hours (with breaks) to complete the test. Each block, like Step 1, is 60 minutes.

Don't not get excited about this or think you are getting a break! The individual questions are MUCH longer than Step 1, they require analysis of several variables per question, many (if not most) involve review of relevant subjective findings, objective findings, and labs, and most questions have 6 or more (I had up to 15 choices on more than a few) selections from which to choose the correct answer.

No, just because it's only 46 questions per 60-minute block, don't be fooled into thinking you've got "more time" or whatever.

Actually, my vignettes seemed a lot shorter than Step 1. I also had only a small number of questions with more than 5 answers. It's the luck of the draw, I guess.

Don't be fooled though... it's still a freakin LOOOOOOOOOOOONG exam. 🙁

You apparently had a VERY different test than I did.

🙁

-Skip... still awaiting my score

Hey Skip,

I'm trying to figure out when the heck I am going to get my scores too. When did you take your test? I took mine on September 27th, and still no sign of life. For God's sake, its a friggin computer test!

thought that I would jump in here.. took mine on the 28th of Sept, not holding my breath, because I realize that it will take a little time for the result..... did you check oasis yet to see if youre score has been reported yet Skip?

I'm too chicken. 😱 I just don't want to know that way. I want to have the envelope.

I should be getting my score, hopefully, by next week. But, I've heard that the test scores are being delayed for some reason and it's taking up to six weeks to get a score report. One of my friends just got his score back last week (took it on Sept. 3rd)... and he got a 227! He thought the test was easy. I'll be happy with a 200, at this point. Hell, I'll be happy if I passed. I thought it was MUCH harder than Step 1.

I crapped my pants after step 2 also. Got my score today via dean's office (235/95), which is much better than I thought I did. I also thought the test was harder than step 1, and I did actually score lower on step 2. My score was reported after exactly 3 weeks.

I took the test 9/17/04. I got my score in the mail yesterday. Almost exactly 4 weeks from test to report.

Anyway, I passed. Average score. At least it's done. 🙁

Congrats, Skip. An average score is certainly nothing to be ashamed of! It's not gonna hurt you in any way. Still waiting for my score... took it 9/30...
