I'm starting 3rd year rotations on June 18 and am considering whether having a study partner for Step II is a good idea (my school doesn't do shelves). I didn't really do great on Step I (217), so I'm looking for someone motivated to kinda keep pace throughout the year. I'm not sure how feasible this is since I don't even know my rotation schedule yet, but I thought I'd throw this out there and see who responded.

I'm also all ears for people who want to give advice on how to do well on Step II. I think I need more guidance than just "do well on your shelves/rotations" because I don't have those, so I have no idea how to prepare throughout the year. The few upperclassmen I've talked to just said to read uptodate, surgical recall, and random review books...which I'm pretty sure will screw me when I have to take Step II at the end.

At the moment, I'm just planning on doing UWorld throughout the rotation I'm on and either take notes onto a scratch piece of paper or annotate into World. Annotating into FA for Step 1 took forever with all the flipping around, so I'm thinking of writing everything down for Step 2 for a given rotation, then organizing all that info into some kind of system that makes sense to me (probably based on the big UWorld charts), then integrating whatever random facts are in FA for Step II with my custom made notes. Is this a good idea? Feasible? Efficient?

Anyways, so yeah, I'd love advice on what to do where your school doesn't really make you do anything outside of the hospital. I'm pretty motivated, but I just need to know where to expend my effort and how fast I should be moving. My effort was REALLY misplaced for Step I (I want to shoot the asshat upperclassman who told me the secret was to read Robbins and Golan Pharm...total waste).

Thanks in advance.
